Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 260: Do GLP-1s Really Cause Muscle Loss? ft. Dr. Angie Sadeghi
Q: I'm curious about GLP-1s causing muscle loss; are there long-term risks we should worry about, and do resistance training protocols accompany these medications in studies?
Most apparent 'muscle loss' on some studies is due to measurement methods, not actual muscle loss. When people lose weight, intramyocellular fat decreases, making muscle appear smaller on impedance tests; true muscle loss is not occurring, and if strength is tracked during weight loss, many patients maintain or even gain strength. GLP-1s primarily reduce appetite and weight, and the accompanying metabolic benefits are largely weight-loss-driven; resistance training remains important to preserve and build muscle mass during calorie deficits.
Episode 256: "The Vegan Diet Saved My Life" (Coach Alice's Story)
Q: What piece of advice would you give someone starting out on their health and fitness journey?
Focus on long-term health and strength rather than shrinking the body alone; build confidence, energy, and self-respect, and use coaching as a way to fast-track progress rather than chasing rapid weight loss at the expense of well-being.
Episode 254: From Outsider to Leader in Vegan Fitness: Giacomo's Story
Q: What sparked your interest in bodybuilding and coaching?
A music teacher who saw potential helped him break out of his shell and start lifting; later, the shift from athletic vanity to a coaching vocation came through Dani's guidance and a desire to do coaching online when no vegan coaches existed.
Episode 255: From Poverty to Purpose: Dani's Story
Q: What was the biggest turning point in Dani's journey toward coaching and bodybuilding?
Realizing that extreme dieting and relying on a generic plan for everyone didn't work, Dani shifted to a more balanced, evidence-based approach and saw the value of ongoing support and personalized coaching.
Episode 253: Bodybuilding Changed My Life: Coach Ben's Story
Q: What made you pick coaching as a career?
Ben explains his shift from clinical paths to coaching, driven by a desire to help people through behavior change and the realization that coaching is more about psychology and people skills than just programming.
