Knute Berger is a PNW treasure and puts a lot of effort and care into each of his little historical bites. A must listen for old timers and newcomers to the region, the show really helps establish a sense of place here in the upper left.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and the podcast. Really loved being turned on to new films to watch that were filmed in Seattle. How great would it be to have a film festival of all these gems in the Cinerama? Thank you for another great season!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Puzzle of the Pimpled Prairie
Q: Is it possible that you take a bunch of sediment and you shake the crust, and you shake the crust, and you shake the crust, and is it possible for that sediment to naturally dance into these mounds?
Yes, under very specific conditions of seismic activity and liquefaction, it is conceivable that shaking could organize loose sediment into mound-like forms, though this remains one of several competing theories and not a definitive explanation.
The Forces That Carved the Columbia
Q: What are the implications of the Missoula Floods on the Columbia River?
The floods drastically reshaped the river's landscape and geology, demonstrating the power of natural events on geographic features.
The Forces That Carved the Columbia
Q: What did you learn from your collaboration with Nick Zentner?
Nick's expertise provided valuable insights, and working with him strengthened engagement with the audience.
The Forces That Carved the Columbia
Q: What inspired you to focus on the Columbia River?
I thought it would be cool to do a show about the Columbia River because it’s such a defining entity of the Pacific Northwest's history and geography.
The Hike That Stopped a Highway
Q: Why do we see so little recognition for Polly Dyer despite her contributions?
She preferred not to be in the spotlight like William O. Douglas, though she played a significant role in grassroots organizing and environmental activism.
