  • Solid, Biblical Foundation for Healthy Churches in Missions

Great job proclaiming the importance of building up healthy churches overseas just as we want to do that here in the US. Pragmatic missiology not grounded in Scripture is more than problematic — it’s dangerous and leads to great harm for those we may have intended to help. I can’t wait to hear you guys dig in to how to apply these biblical principles to missions work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

On The Great Commission Congress (Ep. 66)
Q: What will attendees gain from the Great Commission conversations compared to traditional conferences?
The conversations are designed to be the core of the Congress, encouraging active participation, group problem-solving, and relational networking, rather than passive listening to plenary speakers, with practical implications for churches and missionaries alike.
On The Great Commission Congress (Ep. 66)
Q: Explain the theological convictions at the core of the GCC and how they shape the Congress.
The GCC brings together long-term missionaries from diverse organizations who share a commitment to glorifying Christ through healthy, church-centered missions, grounded in classical evangelical confessions and a focus on indigenous church planting as the ultimate aim.
On Hermeneutics & Missions (Ep. 62)
Q: How can pastors and aspiring missionaries prepare with solid hermeneutical skills?
It starts at home with solid biblical interpretation in sermons and teaching congregations about the importance of context and interpretation.
On Setting Strategic Priorities for Missions Sending from your Local Church (Ep. 60)
Q: Ryan, you're worried about binding people's current conscience. What do we do?
We have to be careful. If missions only centers around unreached language groups, it might bind consciences unnecessarily, especially when the scripture does not call for this exclusivity.
On Setting Strategic Priorities for Missions Sending from your Local Church (Ep. 60)
Q: Jeffrey, we often hear of different priorities and missions, whether that's unreached language groups or Bible translations or particular places in need of the gospel or people groups that have less than 2% of a population that's evangelical. So if a church sets a strategic priority and a specific aspiring missionary does not fit that specific church's priority, how should that church respond?
It's good to be clear whether that priority is biblical or arbitrary. It's worthwhile to think about where certain statistics come from and ensure that the aspiring missionary's work aligns with the church's goals.
