  • Solid, Biblical Foundation for Healthy Churches in Missions

Great job proclaiming the importance of building up healthy churches overseas just as we want to do that here in the US. Pragmatic missiology not grounded in Scripture is more than problematic — it’s dangerous and leads to great harm for those we may have intended to help. I can’t wait to hear you guys dig in to how to apply these biblical principles to missions work.

On Healthy Indigenous Churches (Ep. 55)
Q: So why, why TJ, do some missionaries ignore the core elements of what a church is when seeking to plant indigenous churches?
They assume them or overlook them in favor of focusing on language and culture.
On Healthy Indigenous Churches (Ep. 55)
Q: TJ, brother, should the same elements be present in a healthy indigenous church regardless of the location?
Yes, the gospel elements are essential and should be universally present, irrespective of where they're planted.
On Ekklesia International (Ep. 49)
Q: What are the dangers of someone being disconnected from Christian community when they're overseas?
One of the dangers is just that people fall apart without fellowship; they need a church in a language they can understand to help them navigate life and stresses while learning a local language.
On Ekklesia International (Ep. 49)
Q: What are you hoping to accomplish together as you work together in the years ahead with this association?
We want to cooperate to plant churches, strengthen churches, train pastors, and reach into the nations that surround us, while also putting a flag in the ground to say this is a wonderful way to go overseas.
On Ekklesia International (Ep. 49)
Q: Can you just share with us some of the distinctives of this association?
The main idea of this is it stems back to a conversation about the need for trade language English churches that start partnering together, encouraging each other, especially to help raise up pastors for local English language churches in the Middle East.
