  • Solid, Biblical Foundation for Healthy Churches in Missions

Great job proclaiming the importance of building up healthy churches overseas just as we want to do that here in the US. Pragmatic missiology not grounded in Scripture is more than problematic — it’s dangerous and leads to great harm for those we may have intended to help. I can’t wait to hear you guys dig in to how to apply these biblical principles to missions work.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

On The Path To Being A Missionary (Ep. 73)
Q: When we're talking about your all's book, let me start with the obvious question. Why this book, why now?
There are many missions books, but this one aims to guide churches and campus ministries through the preparation and discernment process before someone is sent, emphasizing church supervision, biblical criteria, and practical steps rather than simply presenting a plan.
On John Paton (Ep. 72)
Q: What drew you to John Paton as a subject for a biography?
Paul explains his fascination with Paton's composite role as evangelist, church planter, and mobilizer, and how Paton's philosophy offers a practical, biblical blueprint for indigenous church growth and sustainable missions.
On Culture & Language Acquisition in Tokyo (Ep. 71)
Q: What habits or practices make the biggest difference in your actual progress?
Humility and regular, practical use of the language in real-life contexts make the biggest difference, including finding a regular practice partner and embracing opportunities to speak even when it feels embarrassing.
On The Great Commission Congress (Ep. 66)
Q: What will attendees gain from the Great Commission conversations compared to traditional conferences?
The conversations are designed to be the core of the Congress, encouraging active participation, group problem-solving, and relational networking, rather than passive listening to plenary speakers, with practical implications for churches and missionaries alike.
On The Great Commission Congress (Ep. 66)
Q: Explain the theological convictions at the core of the GCC and how they shape the Congress.
The GCC brings together long-term missionaries from diverse organizations who share a commitment to glorifying Christ through healthy, church-centered missions, grounded in classical evangelical confessions and a focus on indigenous church planting as the ultimate aim.
