  • Extraordinarily Out of Touch

I stumbled on this podcast thinking “cool, a political discussion that discusses local politics”. What I actually found is a podcast furthering one political party, with a so-called “conservative” praising liberal policies. No good arguments were made or differing points of view, just disgust at conservatives while praising liberalism.

  • Unlistenable

I’m a long time subscriber of both the newsletter and the podcast, but I’m unfollowing the podcast. The audio quality is often so poor and uneven that the listener has to ride the volume knob to hear extremely low sound to turning down suddenly loud audio. Too bad, because the content is often quite good and compelling. I waited six months, hoping the sound quality would improve, but I’ve given up. You

I’ve learned a lot since I started listening back in July of 2021 and I’m really looking forward to what their local election coverage looks like as 2022 heats up. I already know way more about local elections then I’d ever get from reading mlive or metro Detroit local news.

The audio quality and editing is kind of whack sometimes (w... more

Jurcak explains that a charter and franchise framework constrain competition and that a mediator-driven negotiation involving the city, the ferry operators, and the state is needed to reach a balanced resolution that preserves access and pricing for residents and visitors.

Q: How do you view education funding reform and tax policy in Michigan's competitive landscape?
We should reduce unnecessary tax burdens on business and individuals to attract high-wage jobs, while focusing dollars on classroom needs and adopting innovative education delivery, like school choice options, to improve outcomes.
MIRS Monday, May 11, 2026
Q: What steps would you take in the first 100 days regarding AI regulation and consumer protection?
I would implement a comprehensive suite of AI-based regulations under the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, targeting AI-driven scams and price gouging, to tighten rules without waiting for new legislation.
