  • Love this. Great deconstruction of the lies told by Christian thought leaders in the parenting sphere. Useful for Christians looking to wisely select healthier materials, and deconstructed/deconstructing folks to see what was true and choose their path forward

  • Great show

Your show reminds me of two great bands; Thin Lizzie and Wishbone Ash. I’m not sure why! Maybe it’s your hard-driving lyrics with a rock-n-roll beat and a true knowledge of the instrument.

  • If you sometimes miss the part of church where a straight, white man tells you what to think and do…

Clint is here to mansplain deconversion to you!

The episodes with no guests feature Clint clearly reading straight off pages of typed notes in a monotone. Episodes with guests feature pointless interruptions by Clint, especially female guests. For example, I loved hearing from Katherine North on the latest episode but it was almost impossible to keep listening because of Clint’s constant talking over her.

If I missed straight, white, cis men acting like they have it all figured out, I’d go ba... more

Missionary Kid, Religious Trauma, and Leaving Christianity (with Josh Foster)
Q: How can people get a hold of you?
They can reach him via Instagram and Threads at the unlearning journey, or through his course at theunlearningjourneycourse.com.
Missionary Kid, Religious Trauma, and Leaving Christianity (with Josh Foster)
Q: What do you help people do?
He helps people reframe their life narratives, adopt new tools for living outside religious frameworks, and learn to listen to themselves rather than solely to God, through approaches like Narrative Therapy.
Missionary Kid, Religious Trauma, and Leaving Christianity (with Josh Foster)
Q: Do you ever feel like you abandoned those people on some level?
Yes, there are deep questions about how to maintain responsibility for those you minister to, but the realization came that ongoing presence and discipleship beyond the immediate mission was often lacking, which contributed to his doubts and the decision to step back.
Four and Twenty Blackbirds: Inside Mars Hill and the Trial of Paul Petry (with Rob Thain Smith)
Q: What were the actual charges against Paul Petry, and how did the trial proceed?
The charges were framed as violations of elder protocol and sharing bylaw documents with a non-elder, which Rob and Paul argued were frivolous and used to justify removing him. The trial was conducted by the 24 elders in a manner Rob describes as a kangaroo court, with insufficient due process, absence of key witnesses, and a lack of transparency.
More Than Church Hurt: A Therapist's Guide to Religious Trauma Syndrome (with Morgan Piercy, LPC)
Q: What strategies are most helpful for reconstructing after deconstruction?
Values work through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, nervous system regulation, recognizing triggers, and education about cult psychology to name and understand what happened, which disempowers the trauma and supports rebuilding a meaningful life.
