  • Super engaging

I love this podcast, as it provides just the right amount of science which is explained in ways that are easy for the non-scientist to understand. Mikki is so engaging!

  • Brilliant Dr Mulgan interview

Mikki! Great interview, I could have listened for another few hours! I have one of his books….ashamed to admit I’ve not read it (I am a great buyer of books which get read eventually…..true!) but I’m starting on it this afternoon. I’ve taken away so much from this interview. You always ask the right questions, so many podcasters don’t do their research and it’s almost embarrassing listening to them……11/10 Mikki.

Rethinking Protein and Plant-Based Health with Dr Matt Nagra
Q: Are there populations at risk of choline deficiency and what are common dietary sources?
Beef liver and eggs are rich sources, but plant sources such as tofu, soy milk, lentils, chickpeas, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli also contribute significantly. Deficiency risk is higher in certain groups like pregnant individuals, and while adequate intake values are conservative, most people on plant-based diets consume less choline than recommended.
Rethinking Protein and Plant-Based Health with Dr Matt Nagra
Q: What is choline's main role in the body and why is it considered a micronutrient of concern for some diets?
Choline acts as a precursor for acetylcholine, important for memory and nerve signaling, and for phosphatidylcholine, essential for liver fat transport. Its adequacy can be influenced by other nutrients like betaine and folate, which can compensate to some degree, and many plant-based diets may fall below the standard intakes, particularly in pregnancy where higher levels are beneficial.
Rachel Arthur: Micronutrients Beyond the Basics: What Really Matters
Q: What should people consider when evaluating the form of a nutrient and its testing—how to avoid ineffective supplementation?
Form matters because different salts or esters can alter absorption and function; testing should be multi-marker and triangulated with diet and symptoms. Avoid megadosing and prefer evidence-based forms and dosing schedules that respect gut regulation and the body's regulatory mechanisms.
Rachel Arthur: Micronutrients Beyond the Basics: What Really Matters
Q: So how have things evolved in our understanding of nutrition, and why do people often hear contradictory guidance about supplementation?
Nutrition science is complex and not monotonic; there are stop-start advances and vested interests that push some trends forward (like NMN) while basic fundamentals (adequate baseline nutrition) are still essential. There's a need to focus on fundamentals, test the right markers, and avoid chasing every hype-driven nutrient.
Maintenance, Metabolism & Supplements: No-Nonsense Fat Loss Talk with Brandon DaCruz
Q: How do you account for training calories in a maintenance phase if someone is doing a lot of activity? Do you eat back training calories, and how do you determine how much?
I hold training activity steady first, avoid a simplistic 'eat back' approach, and use an undulating calorie cycle to increase intake on training days while tracking data across weeks rather than daily estimates. This helps align energy intake with actual energy expenditure without relying on inaccurate wearable readouts.
