  • Necessary listening

Really interesting clear informative episodes. This is such a good resource for an isolating illness. Unless you know, you just can't know and it's literally debilitating. Thank you!

  • In Gut health for migraine

There is quite a bit of grey information in this episode. On Sauerkraut the gentleman shows little understanding. Eg. It takes 6 weeks minimum, nit the random times he states. For gluten check out ZOE podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A new molecule for migraine? Maybe!
Q: What made you decide to do a study on this molecule with migraine?
The guest explains the need for caution with migraine claims, outlines the study's purpose as a frequent headache study rather than a migraine claim, and shares personal and professional motivation to understand how oxidative stress and mitochondrial energy relate to migraine episodes.
Managing Blood Sugar for Migraine Relief: Insights with Dr. Beverly Yates, ND
Q: How do you describe the practical use of CGMs and what does a typical setup look like?
CGMs involve a small sensor placed under the skin with an adhesive, worn on the arm or torso, often lasting 10-15 days, with a tiny needle insert; patches can help keep it in place, and data visualization helps correlate meals and symptoms.
Managing Blood Sugar for Migraine Relief: Insights with Dr. Beverly Yates, ND
Q: What are continuous glucose monitors and why should someone with migraines consider using them?
CGMs provide real-time (with minor lag) data on blood sugar by measuring interstitial fluid, reducing the need for finger sticks, helping identify how meals and timing affect glucose levels, and revealing overnight patterns that can influence migraine frequency.
Managing Blood Sugar for Migraine Relief: Insights with Dr. Beverly Yates, ND
Q: Tell me the top three foods that spike people's blood sugar that surprises them.
Many people are surprised that whole wheat bread can spike blood sugar due to lower fiber content, certain fruits like blueberries and pineapples can cause spikes, and starchier vegetables such as Delicata or butternut squash can also lead to higher glucose responses; testing each person's reaction helps tailor choices.
Understanding Environmental Factors in Migraine Management with Dr. Aly Cohen
Q: How are all these chemicals linked with the rise in autoimmune conditions that we're seeing?
The increase in chemical exposure is correlated with the rise of autoimmune diseases, affecting the immune system and potentially causing flares in those with existing conditions.
