From the outside my life looked wonderful. I had an amazing wife, three great kids, a beautiful house in the countryside and a successful consultancy business. But on the inside, I was deeply unhappy. I felt trapped by the very life that I had designed. I felt that I had no sense of purpose. And I’d lost all sense of who I was or what my place in the world was. But what I’ve discovered since is th... more

  • Not bad but… Is it just a big advert?

I’m five episodes in and the host has a compelling purpose and good manner. There are some insightful moments that address a worthy topic. However… all the stories (so far) are from people who are rather “comfortable” in life and have a business to promote. Where are the stories from people who don’t have “a nice house, good wife, lovely family and expensive car”? The ones who don’t have a springboard provided by a successful life? This isn’t to demean their struggle with crisis, but after five ... more

  • Good start

Yes! This does get a foothold on an important topic that is skirted around on other pods.

Not sure? I’ve heard two editions so far and as per usual for any podcast; it’s all about the product the guest is making a living out of.

My aim is to score this higher the more I listen.

One Year On: What I’ve Learned About Midlife (and Myself)
Q: What have you learned about yourself over the past year while doing the show?
I've learned that I know better what helps me when I'm low, that I can identify patterns in my head, and that small, consistent practices can lift me out of slumps—though it isn't always linear.
Midlife Stories: Grief, Recovery and Resilience, with Jase Rowe
Q: What practical steps would you recommend to someone in midlife dealing with chronic anxiety or grief?
Start with small, sustainable changes: limit exposure to distressing news, reintroduce creative or physical activities you love, establish daily walks or outdoor time, practice healthy coping strategies, seek counseling, and lean on supportive friends and family to maintain momentum.
Midlife Stories: Grief, Recovery and Resilience, with Jase Rowe
Q: What was the turning point that began your recovery process after hitting rock bottom?
After a period of severe anxiety and depression, I sought counseling through the Cancer Counseling Charity and began making deliberate lifestyle changes, stopping negative news intake, reconnecting with art, and building a regular routine of outdoor activity and exercise which gradually restored my motivation and balance.
Divorce is The Second Most Traumatic Life Event - Sara Davison on Surviving Relationship Break Ups
Q: Sara, you've been helping people through relationship breakups for many years, and you've written books about it. How did you kind of get into this space in the first place?
I turned a personal crisis into a mission by combining coaching with the breakup process, creating tools and support structures that I wished existed when I went through my own separation, which later expanded into a training school for coaches and online support groups.
Men Communicate Distress Through Behaviour Rather Than Words - Dr Stephen Blumenthal on Self Expression
Q: Do you think that men are scared of therapy?
Yes, there is a greater stigma and men may feel threatened by therapy, which can deter them from seeking help or engaging deeply; finding the right therapist and a comfortable, safe setting is crucial.
