内膳司（うちのかしわでのつかさ）の奉膳という役職を世襲してきた高橋朝臣は、磐鹿六雁命（いわやむつかりのみこと）を先祖にもち、太古から天皇の料理をつくってきた一族でした。またその後、武内宿祢を先祖にもつ紀朝臣高橋という一族も御厨子所（みずしどころ）の預という役職について、明治になるまで千年以上にわたり天皇の料理をつくってきました。
