  • Episode 18: The Intentional Debriefing!!!!

What a terrific episode! A friend told me to take a listen, and was she ever correct. I am single after a very long, complex marriage and I am very hesitant to date, mostly out of fear of repeating old patterns. Steven outlining the importance of doing the work of taking personal accountability for the role we play was an affirmation I needed to hear. My ongoing therapy and work to build healthier habits it’s time well spent. Thanks for a great, intelligent episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Special Guest Episode: Zoey Charif
Q: What is the core idea behind your relationship framework?
The core idea is to quantify relationship compatibility by scoring both partners on top five values and top five traits, then averaging these to form a partner score. When scores align well, and especially when one partner's score is slightly above the other (about 4%), the likelihood of a durable, fulfilling relationship increases. The framework is a practical tool to guide self-awareness and communication, not a guarantee of success.
Episode 66: Holding a Relationship Loosely
Q: What is your advice for maintaining spiritual intimacy when partners have different beliefs?
Approach differences with confrontation in a constructive sense—bring up beliefs openly, seek understanding and shared values, and honor each other's journeys while keeping open communication about what faith means personally.
Episode 67: Examining a Failed Relationship
Q: Hi Steve, my fiancée and I are engaged and our wedding is in six months. I'm tempted to have one last hookup with someone hot before we marry. Is that a bad idea?
It's not going to calm the long-term commitment and indicates the person is not ready for monogamy; the healthier course is to examine readiness, have honest conversations with your fiancée, and work toward transparent communication. If the fantasy persists, talk to your fiancée or a counselor to address underlying issues.
Episode 72: How to Have More Fun Dating
Q: Hi Steve, this is going to sound ridiculous, but I am positive my wife loves our dog more than she loves me. Is that selfish?
The key is to have an honest, direct conversation about your needs and the affection dynamics, assess if there is a pattern of unequal attention, and decide together how to meet emotional needs without blaming the other person; if it's not resolved, consider whether the relationship still meets your fundamental needs.
Episode 77: The Relationship Blueprint
Q: What role does intimacy play in sustaining a long-term relationship according to your framework?
Intimacy is the ongoing, safe showing of life to a partner, built on trust and open dialogue. It grows as both people continue to be themselves, share vulnerabilities, and work through conflicts without abuse, which keeps the relationship alive and meaningful across decades.
