  • Doom & Gloom

If you like your Macroeconomics full of doom & gloom with no insights on how to capitalize on said doom & gloom, then this is the podcast for you.

Jeff is definitely an amazing source of knowledge and understanding but positivity and optimism are not strong attributes.

  • Nuts and bolts

I appreciate the info on how the system works I never knew what the Eurodollar was and now I have a slight grasp of the system. I appreciate the daily updates and shorter format. It’s easier to digest for just a working guy. Thanks Jeff!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Eurodollar Talk: You Won’t Believe What Iran War Tensions Are Doing to Gold Markets
Q: Did tariff policies drive a significant move in gold during the period discussed?
Tariffs contributed to market friction and influenced carry trades and inventory movements, notably causing gold to shift between London and New York and prompting hedging adjustments, though they were not a simple, uniform price driver in either direction.
Eurodollar Talk: You Won’t Believe What Iran War Tensions Are Doing to Gold Markets
Q: What impact did the Iran conflict have on gold prices in the near term?
It pushed prices down temporarily as risk-off tensions or flight-to-safety dynamics created a negative short-term move, but the longer-term thesis for gold remained supportive due to ongoing dollar liquidity concerns and distrust in institutions.
Eurodollar Talk: Hugh Hendry: The Biggest Trade of the Next 10 Years Has Started
Q: How does the discussion frame QE and liquidity in the eurodollar system?
Hendry uses the candy metaphor for QE, arguing that easing facilitated cash buildup and risk-taking, which paradoxically contributed to a fragile liquidity environment and a reliance on safe assets for collateral—hinting at ongoing liquidity challenges.
Eurodollar Talk: Hugh Hendry: The Biggest Trade of the Next 10 Years Has Started
Q: What is the current view on the carry trade and its relevance to yen and dollar levels?
The host asks about the carry trade and whether government actions in Japan will alter the thesis; Hendry maintains that the fundamental dynamics of yen weakness and dollar strength persist, with potential upside for the dollar if JGBs remain safe and the policy stance stays loose or becomes more reckless.
Eurodollar Talk: BlackRock Insider Reveals What’s REALLY Happening in Private Credit
Q: What signs should investors look for to gauge whether a credit loss cycle is starting, and how might that differ from traditional public-market indicators?
Watch for widening CCC spreads, signs of stress in high-quality credits despite quiet public quotes, drop in inflows, and sharp increases in redemptions or liquidity concerns that indicate the market is freezing rather than simply normal fluctuations.
