I am a Latina, and nobody can tell our story better than we can.
I desperately want to see your uncle's vision on the big screen, not the whitewash version. Listening to the actors you chose to reenact his script made me want more. The production of this podcast. Introduced me to a deeper understanding of an Asian experience. Growing up in the United States, it was, as you can imagine, very similar to most minorities.
It’s a fascinating story but goes on for far too long, even at 1.3x playback.
This podcast dropped me in to the messy and complicated life of the narrator’s family. It felt like the loveliest long form episode of this American life - a compliment I don’t extend mildly. Contrary to some other reviewers opinions, I fully appreciate the meditation and catharsis of working through the hidden (and sometimes very surprising) elements of our families.
Wow, people are so harsh. I think those who don’t like this series are the night-crawling true crime chasers who only want gory details.
This story is not a quick rush. I think the narrator sharing her feelings and being open throughout this process is so refreshing and allows those who aren’t afraid of empathy inside the story. Her prose is easy to follow, allowing her perspective and the storyline to be easily digestible. I binged this podcast in a couple days and I’ll probably start it agai... more
Honoring ppl’s lives. I wish I did this with one of my family members. Really well done. An instant fav after listening to the first episode.
It had good reviews but I didn’t really wanna listen to someone talk about their family therapy for 7 hours.
I thought I would like this podcast and the ratings seemed good, and I am married to an Asian American from Northern California, but I was sorely disappointed. I didn’t really want to listen to a person talk about her family therapy session for seven hours. There was really no storyline except the author talking about her family dysfunction and her uncle and their misfortunes, but there was no compelling narrative. I would like my time and my money back.
I thought this podcast was fine, but it just didn’t grip me in the way these type of stories normally do. It was an interesting story but I feel like it could have been told in one episode rather than a whole series. I liked the presenter and the style I just got a bit bored.
Another podcast made unlistenable because of background music. Why do you add it? What is the purpose? Who asks for it? Would anyone miss it if it went?
I love it it’s really good. And I love the story
Another Apple podcast marred by a neurotic host who talks about themselves instead of the subject matter.
I’m halfway through episode 2 and I’m done. This is just so boring I can’t even concentrate on it.
Gripping snd emotional story telling from a world I knew nothing about. Unfolds at a perfect pace and has so many thoughtful and interesting participants. Thanks for sharing a personal and sometimes difficult story
I was looking for something that wasn’t the news. This podcast was so well done on many levels. It touched me and moved me. Highly recommended.
A shallow host desperate for a story at the expense of her family!
