Great! Apart from the ones a) with female guests and b) featuring Mitch Benn. These are easily skipped.

  • Where Nostalgia and Anemoia Meet

It’s strange getting to the age when you start to realise that you aren’t remembering things the way they were, and this show is the perfect place to refresh memories you weren’t sure you really had. I discovered this after becoming disgruntled with the “new look” of the Scarred For Life podcast. If you were born anytime between 1965 and 1990, there’s probably going to be something here for you, but, speaking as a 70s baby, the sweet spot is 1970 to 1980. Excellent stuff.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

135 - Tom Williamson - You Stick Them In And They Go FH-DNK
Q: Tom, what was going on with Duel and Propaganda, and what made it stand out?
Propaganda, a German band from DĂŒsseldorf, released Duel under ZTT Records; the track had a cheery surface but rather dark lyrics, and it was used widely as a musical bed in radio and TV contexts, with a notable industrial version on the B-side. This mix of contrast and its cross-media presence helped it become a memorable, controversial hit.
135 - Tom Williamson - You Stick Them In And They Go FH-DNK
Q: Tom, what are you up to? Where can we find it?
I'm one half of the Retrospectacus podcast, a fairly infrequent podcast where we spend about 20 minutes talking about an episode of The Simpsons, and then another 20 minutes talking about an important historical event that happened roughly when the episode was broadcast.
The Golden Age Of Children's TV - Tim Worthington - Admittedly Some Are Wil Cwac Cwac
Q: Do you think these shows endure today?
Tim believes it varies on a case-by-case basis, noting that earlier episodes of Grange Hill feel more remote than shows like The Adventure Game.
The Golden Age Of Children's TV - Tim Worthington - Admittedly Some Are Wil Cwac Cwac
Q: What do you think of the Future Focus being a product of the time it was produced?
Tim thinks it's a bit of both, pointing out that a tipping point occurred due to societal changes and the popularity of programs like Tiswas.
The Golden Age Of Children's TV - "It's A Bit Like The A-ha Video"
Q: What is Emu's Broadcasting Company and why do you love it so much?
It had elements of affectionate satire, focusing on children's programing while incorporating elements from pop culture.
