  • Former Cheerleader Turned Dad now a Big Fan!

Jason has one of THE BEST laughs on the planet! I can’t count how many times I’ve just laughed when he started to laugh. That said, the knowledge J passes along is not only insightful, it’s entertaining. With a daughter coming to the cheer age, I wish she had a coach like Jason Larkins available to lead her. Solid lessons on life, leadership, and a love for the sport. I haven’t cheered in 20 years but this podcast makes me want to lace up my Asics again!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What Coaches REALLY Think During Cheer Tryouts & Team Placements
Q: What percentage of kids do you already know where they're going during tryouts?
The discussion acknowledges that level placement is usually obvious for tumbling-strong kids and that team placements depend on all athletes in the pool; in practice, you often know level-specific outcomes but the final team is unpredictable and shaped by peers.
7 Reasons Athletes Choke Under Pressure (And What Elite Performers Do Differently)
Q: How should coaches help athletes build their self-image?
Coaches should guide athletes through a system that emphasizes preperformance preparation (preload and commitment), rehearsing the first steps, and maintaining a strong belief in one's ability to perform well, while actively reframing mistakes as learning opportunities rather than mental errors.
Why Varsity Delayed Removing Flex (Straight From The Source)
Q: What is happening with Flex divisions now that a delaying timeline has been announced?
The removal of Flex is still in motion, but the timeline shifts to the 2027-2028 season, giving customers more time to adjust while maintaining the long-term goal of moving away from Flex.
Secret Weapon for Cleaner Routines at NCA
Q: Can you give us some advice for those taking the stage this weekend?
Athletes should pause and take mental pictures of their experiences, focusing on memories rather than just results.
What Are Drivers? The Invisible Scores That Make or Break Your Cheer Routine
Q: How many days a week should teams practice?
Most teams practice twice a week, but this can vary based on the team's schedule and commitments.
