Iโ€™m sorry. $81,500 still not enough for what officers have to deal with in todayโ€™s society Immense respect for officers and the service members of today

  • Thanks for a great show!

I am an Iowan living in Kansas City. I discovered the show right before the Covid 19 hit us. The podcast got me through a lot of my days as I listened on my workouts. I love the variety of topics. In KC our radio is Chiefs saturated. I love the Chiefs but itโ€™s too much sometimes. The KXNO programming is important to me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The 1st Quarter with Heather and Alec 4-16-26 Hr 1
Q: What do you think about the viability of Live Golf as a long-term competitor to the PGA Tour?
There are clear structural and marketing problems, including media deals and the format, that make sustained success unlikely, even with high prize money and star players. The consensus here is that the model struggled to gain a durable audience and legitimacy.
The 1st Quarter with Heather and Alec 4-15-26 Hr 3
Q: What qualifies as an emergency and how do dispatchers decide the priority of a call?
Dispatchers assess the situation in real-time, sometimes guiding callers through CPR or directing them to mental health resources, while prioritizing urgent incidents and coordinating with responders.
The 1st Quarter with Heather and Alec 4-15-26 Hr 3
Q: How many calls does the Des Moines 911 dispatch handle annually?
About half a million calls per year, including both emergency and non-emergency calls, across the Des Moines Communication Center.
The 1st Quarter with Heather and Alec 4-13-26 Hr 3
Q: Is there a time when a player has to stay in the NBA draft or can they withdraw and return to college without penalty?
Hosts explain that a player can declare for the NBA draft and later withdraw to return to college, with a withdrawal deadline around late May; this allows the player to gather feedback while keeping the option to return intact.
The 1st Quarter with Heather and Alec 4-10-26 Hr 2
Q: Sean, what do you think has led to Alvaro Fulguerra not hitting the portal yet, and what are the latest developments on that situation?
The guest explains that Alvaro's NCAA tournament stock boosted interest from many programs, but there are ongoing discussions about whether he hits the portal or stays, with multiple schools showing interest and the landscape shifting as decisions loom; the emphasis is on how this affects Iowa's interior rotation and four-man/five-man dynamics.
