  • So very educational

I’ve just found your podcast recently so I’m starting at the beginning of your episodes. I’ve learned so much just in a the few episodes I’ve seen so far and I look forward to continuing this journey. I’m addicted to sugar and I also binge eat and it brings so much shame but I can’t seem to stop! I know my addiction is connected to childhood trauma. Thank you for your channel.

  • Content is good. Host could be a better interviewer

Sometimes it feels like she just drifts off in her mind while her guest is making an excellent point, vs active listening and carrying the conversation on. She’ll say “hmmmm, thank you” and then ask another question from her list. I would recommend taking this feedback to heart and working on interviewing skills, so that this podcast can improve. Keep up the great work!

Daniel Trevor: How Carbs, Sugar, and Oils Make Us Fat, Sick, and Addicted
Q: Is there a final word or takeaway you want listeners to hold onto?
Go to the website for resources, sign up for the newsletter to access a free preview of the book, and start testing with the suggested labs to understand your own metabolic state. Small, informed steps and consistency in reducing ultra-processed foods can yield meaningful health improvements.
Daniel Trevor: How Carbs, Sugar, and Oils Make Us Fat, Sick, and Addicted
Q: Could you speak to cholesterol and the fear about eating more animal fats?
The traditional link between cholesterol and heart disease has been challenged by data showing that insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction are more critical drivers. High cholesterol alone doesn't predict poor outcomes; many people with high LDL stay healthy if insulin sensitivity is good. The emphasis is on improving metabolic health rather than just lowering cholesterol.
Daniel Trevor: How Carbs, Sugar, and Oils Make Us Fat, Sick, and Addicted
Q: Do you want to talk a bit more about how you understood that there is this addiction in play?
There are numerous studies showing how the dopamine system responds to carbohydrate overconsumption, and the book describes a framework (carbohydrate overdose disorder) to explain why people struggle with eliminating trigger foods. Listeners are encouraged to identify their most addictive foods and replace them with healthier substitutes while gradually removing the most problematic items.
Danielle Hamilton: Your Light Environment Might Be Sabotaging Your Blood Sugar
Q: How can we leverage our understanding of light to support us with sugar cravings and metabolic issues?
Morning sunlight is essential for regulating cortisol and supporting metabolic health, while appropriate light exposure leads to better blood sugar management.
Dr. Susan Peirce Thompson: The Surprising Psychology of Keeping Weight Off Forever
Q: Is there a time when you would recommend GLP-1s on someone's weight loss journey?
I think using a GLP-1 medication can be a useful tool for someone who feels they cannot stay abstinent without it.
