  • Election 2024

I just listened to this show and thought it was so negative towards VPHarris and democrats that I thought I was listening to a right-wing mega conservative show. This did not encourage me to vote. It did the opposite. It was so disappointing!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

79. Introducing Backtalker: an American Memoir
Q: Why is the concept of 'we' complicated in Black communities, and how does that relate to policy and law?
'We' captures both solidarity and conflict; it can rally collective action but also exclude; understanding its nuances helps explain why legal reforms must account for intra-community diversity and unequal effects.
79. Introducing Backtalker: an American Memoir
Q: What was the role of your personal history in shaping your understanding of race and law?
Family history of civil rights work, experiences with segregation, and witnessing the limitations of formal equality motivated a bottom-up approach that centers lived realities as a foundation for theory.
79. Introducing Backtalker: an American Memoir
Q: How did you come to see memoir as a legitimate form for contributing to legal scholarship?
By following Derrick Bell's lead, using stories and parables to illuminate legal issues, and showing that lived experience can reveal legal truths not accessible through traditional doctrinal writing.
77. Heroes, Harm and History: Chavez's Legacy and Women's History Month
Q: Why is it important to address allegations like these during Women's History Month?
Because acknowledging harm within movements is essential to genuine liberation; it centers those who were sidelined and ensures the movement remains accountable, inclusive, and truthful.
ENCORE: 54. #SayHerName - the Art of Bearing Witness on the Page and Stage
Q: I wonder as a media person yourself, what you might have recognized in terms of how the media is supposed to be one thing, but often functions as something quite differently.
Kaye Wise Whitehead reflects on how the media has overlooked the stories of Black women killed by police, leading to intentional erasure and a need for change in how their stories are presented.
