  • Life Saver

I had my first few true night of insomnia and it was terrifying + so upsetting. I’m quite certain it would have spiraled into a full blown insomnia disorder had I not found Daniel and his work. He is truly saving lives!! I still get a little spooked sometimes when I wake up in the night but always fall back asleep because of Daniel and his teachings.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Insomnia and Memory
Q: LH asks how a lack of sleep could impact memory and learning and whether sleep is where memories are stored.
The host explains that sleep deprivation does affect memory because the brain prioritizes immediate survival when in a threatened state, making learning harder, but the brain can compensate with extra effort and still form memories.
It Was So Physical
Q: What happened after the sleep problems began, and how did it affect daily life?
The insomnia disrupted the entire routine, causing extreme anxiety about sleep, impaired performance during the day, and a struggle to maintain sleep without medication, leading to a search for nonpharmacological solutions.
How mom of five Brittany left the insomnia struggle
Q: During this difficult period, how did you manage the day-to-day realities while sleep was so disrupted?
I relied on a mix of supportive family, staged medical guidance, and practical routines, gradually implementing strategies like bedtime planning, environmental adjustments, and walking at night to build tolerance and reduce fear, while keeping hope alive that things could improve.
The Dance of Recovery: How Victoria Stepped Out of Insomnia
Q: And you actually sent an email saying, hey, I'd like to be a guest and I'm so grateful for that. But with that said, tell us in yours, how did you start having trouble sleeping in the first place?
Stressful periods and an initial two sleepless nights set off a longer pattern; trying various sleep aids and CBT-I produced limited results, leading to a broader exploration of lifestyle changes that ultimately helped.
I Felt Like Normal Again
Q: Did you, what happened to the Ativan?
I stopped taking it when I realized my body was calming down and I could sleep on my own without medication.
