  • Good podcast, just a little heads up

My kids play travel hockey so we’re always in the car and we love podcasts. This is a good family friendly one but we were listening to “Born in the USA” about Chinese food, and the host says Santa isn’t real at the top of the podcast. My 8 y.o daughter got very sad and we had to tell her the host was just joking. Good podcast, definitely give it a listen just maybe skip the very beginning with littles.

Where Cooking Meets Storytelling: Inside Robert Apelian’s Fustuk
Q: How did you approach balancing Armenian heritage with broader Middle Eastern influences in a graphic novel format?
By choosing a Middle Eastern fantasy world grounded in real historical textures, leaning on family recipes and memories as the emotional core, and consulting with experts to ensure historical authenticity while keeping the story accessible and joyful.
Where Cooking Meets Storytelling: Inside Robert Apelian’s Fustuk
Q: Where can readers find Fustuk now, and are there plans for translations?
Readers can find Fustuk at local bookstores in the States and Canada, with a French translation coming in 2027; there are hopes for Armenian and Arabic versions in the future.

Q: Would you describe yourself as a foodie?
I would describe myself as a food nerd who loves learning about and trying foods from different cultures, not a professional chef, but deeply passionate about how food connects people.
Where Cake Meets Consciousness: Helen Goh on Baking as Identity, Community, and Connection
Q: Tell me how you came up with the book's title and the ideas behind Baking and the Meaning of Life.
The title draws on Irvin Yalom's concept that ordinary moments, stitched together, create an extraordinary life, and Helen explains that she wanted to focus on the present moment in baking and how everyday acts can have deep personal and communal meaning.
