  • Fun

fun podcast and I enjoy the variety of guests. Reason I'm not giving a five is because I truly wish that the host would talk over her guests less

  • Let them talk!

The guests are great, and I love the idea of the podcast, but Jessie could let them talk more. It really bothers me that she seems to know everything and wants to tell their stories more than she lets them speak. Great to do some research before having them on, but unnecessary to say it all.

  • Fantastic podcast!

I love this podcast. It’s a great mix of professionals and self-taught bakers, and Jessie’s enthusiasm for each topic is infectious. She is fantastic at navigating the conversation between very technical information and candid conversations with the guests. It’s become one on of the pods I look forward to each week!

  • I didn’t come here for diet tips

Really disappointed with the last episode. I’m listening to a baking podcast because I like baking. Being told that I can eat “a little something sweet” but only if it’s “seasoned with sugar” like you’d season with salt and only a BITE OF A COOKIE???? I get that sugar isn’t the best for you. But I don’t appreciate the condescension around food on a BAKING PODCAST.

  • Sally’s baking Addiction

I thoroughly enjoy your interviews but this one with Sally was wonderful. I have been following n using Sally’s recipes for years. She is my go to website when I am looking for a recipe. I love the details she includes with each recipe she has taught me so much over the years. My daughter just gave us a few banana muffins she made and they were so good yep she got the recipe off Sally’s website. Thks for such a great podcast

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Madeleines With Pastry Chef Hyoju Park Of Madeleine De Proust Pâtisserie
Q: What makes the Pink Carnation Madeleine special, and how does it connect to your family?
The Pink Carnation is dedicated to Ju's mother, created after her passing, and combines a technical ganache and Swiss meringue buttercream to form petals, finished with pink chocolate; it carries emotional significance and awareness symbolism while showcasing craftsmanship.
Madeleines With Pastry Chef Hyoju Park Of Madeleine De Proust Pâtisserie
Q: We're going to start today talking about your earliest actual baking memory. Can you tell us about that memory?
Ju recalls making Madeleine at 14 in a school extracurricular class and later recreating them at home; the moment of smelling the Madeleine coming from the oven sparked her lifelong interest in pastry.
From The Archives: Ice Cream Drumsticks With Pooja Bavishi Of Malai
Q: What inspired the Malai Drumstick concept and its ingredient choices?
Pooja explains that the concept grew from a desire to bring South Asian flavors into a familiar, everyday dessert format. She chose eggless bases to remain inclusive for Gujarati vegetarians and to ensure broad accessibility, while star anise, ginger, jaggery, and peanut elements were selected to reflect her heritage and personal memories of chai and comfort foods.
From The Archives: Icebox Cakes With Smitten Kitchen’s Deb Perelman
Q: How do you approach flavoring the whipped cream for a strawberry graham or peanut butter cake?
You blend complementary flavors like lemon zest with sugar, and fold in cream cheese for a tangy, creamy filling that pairs well with berries or peanut butter, while keeping the whipped cream light.
From The Archives: Icebox Cakes With Smitten Kitchen’s Deb Perelman
Q: What's your take on making large cake-sized cookies versus individual cookies for Icebox Cakes?
Large cake-sized cookies simplify assembly, allow for fewer layers, and make it easier to achieve a dramatic, tall cake without needing many individual cookies.
