  • Broadening my understanding

It is vital but challenging to relate to what goes on beyond the programme you are working in. I teach PYP Visual Art and have been wanting to broaden my understanding of MYP & DP for ages. The variety you offer on this podcast is exactly what I need and is helping me broaden my understanding and inspiring me to make greater connections with confidence. Thank you.

Creating Autonomous Learners with Taryn Moir
Q: How do these strategies change as students get older or move to different subjects?
Explicitly teaching strategies remains essential at all ages; the key is making the thinking visible and applying the tools across the entire curriculum, not just reading.
Creating Autonomous Learners with Taryn Moir
Q: Can you give an example of just one or two of those strategies?
We discussed visualization, where a teacher guides students to create a mental movie of the text, then use prompts to describe sights, sounds, and feelings, adjusting the movie as new information emerges.
The impactful IB student with Arjun Malhotra
Q: What kind of things have you done more than just the requirements?
I've worked on tree plantations, community tutoring, and founded a non-profit organization.
The impactful IB student with Arjun Malhotra
Q: How has the global mindedness and the cultural understanding and things like that been developed in you?
The IB encourages questioning whose voices are missing and promotes global perspectives.
Growing the IB in Nepal with Maksud Alam
Q: What are the key benefits you feel like you're getting, your students are getting that you would encourage other schools in Kathmandu and other areas nearby to participate in?
We really need to change the education system in our country. IB education is all about making learners curious about what they're going to learn and providing a learning environment for questions.
