  • Very intriguing Conversations

Although I am not a HR professional, I believe this podcast has given me a lot of insight into the world of Human Resources, specifically Data and diversity, and I value the many conversations David has had with the excellent guests on the show. He asks very interesting questions that bring about intriguing conversations and I would be a liar if I said this podcast did not help me with my Human Resource Management Certificate. Great show!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jacob Chase - Rethinking Performance & Pay: The Future is Decentralized
Q: So Jacob, in your view, what does pay equity look like, especially in the context of people's valuations of themselves?
Pay equity should connect individual contribution to business results, regardless of role, using a universal, value-based assessment rather than market rate alone, and should be applied uniformly to avoid bias.
Christy Brown - Breaking Barriers & Leading Boldly: The Future for Women in Power in 2026
Q: So Christy, we know that there is an environment for female CEOs, and it's sometimes not a good one. What are the unique challenges that women face as CEOs?
The challenges include a persistent representation gap, pay inequality, motherhood and caregiving pressures, and a lack of supportive networks. Women are often evaluated against masculine standards, face isolation in top roles, and contend with a cultural belief that undermines their authority. These factors combine to create a tougher path to leadership that requires intentional community, mentorship, and structural changes.
Amy Dufrane - Breaking the Silence on Substance Abuse in the Workplace: A Call for Compassion and Action.
Q: Where does HR start? Is there training, and what should organizations do first?
HR should get educated, create clear policies and resources, and begin with top-down commitment and training for managers to recognize signs and have constructive conversations, with a focus on certifying the organization through established foundations.
Amy Dufrane - Breaking the Silence on Substance Abuse in the Workplace: A Call for Compassion and Action.
Q: So, Amy, getting back into it, why is this such a big issue, not only for HR professionals, but for employers in general?
Substance use disorder affects a large segment of the workforce and their networks; it is a pervasive issue that leads to lost productivity, higher healthcare costs, and safety concerns, making it essential for employers to proactively educate themselves and implement supportive policies.
Jess Von Bank - Different set of lenses: Women should be the center of our design decisions
Q: First, if there's somebody who doesn't know who Jess is, describe for everybody who you are and where you've gotten to to get to today.
Jess von Bank describes her long career on the technology side, her work across HR and talent, and her current role as an industry analyst who looks at solutions and how they integrate into the flow of work with a human-centered lens.
