  • Best YCFC podcast out there

Sorry Same Old City, but this is king of the wide world of YCFC podcasts.

Dan’s interview style is relaxed yet enthusiastic which gets open, honest, insightful and entertaining interviews from guests. Interviews help me relive the nostalgia of the (rare) good times, and shed light on things I did not know about the bad times.

  • Heroes of yesteryear

Sample the highs and lows of what being a YCFC supporter means by tuning into Dan’s excellent interviews with former players, staff and supporters.

Following a lower league team like York is so much more than football, it’s about shared experiences with friends, and Dan brings those memories we built on the terraces watching our heroes back to life in a series of evocative episodes.

You can almost smell the cigar smoke and bovril wafting across your nostrils on the Shippo once again!

  • An insightful trip down memory lane….

This podcast evokes so many emotions: happy childhood memories, nostalgia to better times, joy that your on pitch heroes are such great blokes, the hope that one day York City can sample similar success. All the ex players come across so well, no doubt as they are great people but in no small part to Dan’s interview style. He allows them to speak, making it more conversational with occasional questions and interjections. Often the guests pre-empt Dan’s questions because of the way the conversati... more

John Williams: The Flying Postman - from non-league to the Premier League (S15 Ep2)
Q: How did the move to Swansea come about, and what was it like stepping up a division?
The move came after he and teammates from Cradley Town drew attention from scouts; the step up was rocky at first as I adjusted to regular training, but the pace and instinct helped me find my footing, score goals, and prove I could compete at a higher level.

Q: So John Williams, thank you so much for giving up your time to speak to us on York Hospital Ball. How did your early interest in football develop, especially given your pace and athletic background?
I always wanted to be a footballer even though I came through a late, non-academy route. I trained and played part-time while pursuing other work and gradually found opportunities that leveraged my pace. The key was staying hungry, accepting challenges, and learning to adapt to higher levels of competition as the moves came.
