  • Best show on TWiT

This was the best show on TWiT. Too bad Leo hates anything and anyone who outshines him. First he ran off John C. Dvorak then he killed off Scott’s show. Sad.

  • Why is this in video?

No one every shows a set up. It's just his mug and someone else staring at a camera. Great info but save your money and make it an audio only podcast.

  • I have been watching this podcast for a little over 2 years...

This podcast contains countless gems of home theater wisdom. Do not expect everything to be covered in one episode, as the field of study is very broad, and very (very) complex! Great intelligent interviews and the host has a very cheerful and positive attitude. I am an audio professional and find this podcast indispensable. Thank you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

HTG 534: The Van Cave Theater - Home Theater of the Month Interview!
Q: What were your primary design goals for the theater in terms of sound isolation, number of channels, and decor?
The goal was to implement a Dolby Atmos system with infrasonic subwoofers and extreme isolation so the room could be used anytime without disturbing the rest of the house, while also focusing on acoustic treatment and a visually striking, highly curated decor scheme.
HTG 534: The Van Cave Theater - Home Theater of the Month Interview!
Q: So when did you purchase, actually you built this home, right? From the ground up, when did that happen?
Construction began after planning in 2019, with a year of planning and architecture, followed by four years of construction and calibration, resulting in a completed theater around the time of this recording.
HTG 532: SID Display Week 2026 - Annual Conclave About Cutting-Edge Display Tech
Q: Can you walk us through how RGB mini LED differs from quantum dots in backlighting and color control?
RGB mini LED uses discrete red, green, and blue backlight LEDs and allows panel-level control over color, enabling more precise backlight modulation and potentially better color gamut, but it can face crosstalk challenges. Quantum dots offer narrow spectral peaks and can shift color peaks to better align with color filters, improving color purity and potentially reducing crosstalk when paired with appropriate backlight design, as seen in the demo where QDs helped achieve a more saturated blue and refined color performance without sacrificing brightness.
HTG 529: How to Add Atmos to In-Ceiling Speaker System - Optimizing for Movie Night!
Q: From Rajesh's note about five in-ceiling speakers, what are your best options for achieving Atmos without a full rebuild?
Add two additional overhead DB-85s above the listening position to create a 5.0.2 configuration if possible, and consider standalone subwoofers from brands like SVS or Stark Sound to boost bass while keeping the main speakers in Origin's family to preserve timbre and integration; also explore in-wall options around the TV if feasible, but avoid placing overheads too close to the TV wall to preserve Atmos realism.
HTG 526: Chatroom Q&A Special 4! - Sony/TCL Joint Venture, BT.2020, Scott's Speakers, & More!
Q: Why is Sony letting TCL take over their TV business, and will there be future firmware updates from Sony?
He explains that it's a joint venture where TCL will own 51% and Sony 49%, with Sony Bravia branding continuing; the collaboration aims to expand distribution and manufacturing, potentially reducing Sony prices but not erasing Sony's premium image.
