Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

This Little World With Nandini Das - Chalke History Festival Special Series
Q: Can you give an example of a micro-history from your book?
One example is Elizabeth Key in Virginia, where a mixed-race daughter of an English slave owner argues for freedom based on birthright, only for the law to later roll back that interpretation, illustrating evolving conceptions of Englishness.
This Little World With Nandini Das - Chalke History Festival Special Series
Q: How does movement reshape the traditional idea of England?
She argues that Albion and Britain emerge from migratory stories, not as isolated centers but as products of intercultural contact, including migrants from the Low Countries, Ireland, and beyond.
This Little World With Nandini Das - Chalke History Festival Special Series
Q: What inspired you to want to write this book?
Das explains that her fascination with the nation as a porous, movement-driven concept led her to look at how travel, migration, and cultural exchange reshaped English identity, not just the traditional royal narratives.
SAS Great Escapes Five with Damien Lewis: Chalke History Festival Special
Q: What makes the Silito desert escape story so compelling to you as a historian?
The notes from Silito's own lectures provided unprecedented, firsthand detail that textual accounts alone could not offer, turning a previously source-poor tale into a vivid, credible narrative.
The Schools History Project with Dan Lyndon Cohen: Chalke History Festival Special
Q: How do you make complex topics accessible to younger students?
Dan highlights scaffolding, using local contexts, artifacts, and compelling questions to connect with students' experiences while showing that history is relevant to their lives today.
