Wait…was that really one of your guests making jokes about how happy he is that his non-verbal daughter was finally institutionalized? I was really starting to like this show. It was pretty interesting until the latest episode. I’m not a political animal, but I also didn’t tune into this show to hear immature and snarky jokes about our current administration…. There is no place in my podcast library for low brow and emotionally charged comments no matter the current political administration or ... more

This show is one of the few English language shows on Persian history. Glad that the presenter is engaging as this is one of the most engaging and prescient historical societies and in English it’s usually just as the antagonists to the Greeks.
The Persians are often treated as antagonists to Greeks, Romans or Byzantines so it is awesome to get the story from the Persian perspective. The host does a good job of being both accessible and detailed. I am looking forward to when he finally gets to the Sassanids.

A history-focused show that explores ancient Persia and its empires through a mix of coinage analysis, political drama, and cultural storytelling. Recent episodes foreground Persian governance under Seleucid rule, eastern provincial administration, and the broader political dynamics of Hellenistic Iran, often weaving in expert commentary and on-site style explorations of sites like Susa and Persis. The host tends to blend deep archival detail with accessible narration, sometimes sparking debates on modern political parallels and the use of propaganda in ancient inscriptions. Noteworthy is the consistent emphasis on material culture (coins, inscriptions) to illuminate political legitimacy and regional identity, offering a distinct, scholarly... more
