It’s so hard to find a church that centers itself on the cross and what Jesus did to get to US rather than what we need to do to get to Him. Consistently taking us out of the center of our own universe, the pastors at Hiawatha, through humor, relatability, and a voracious thirst for the Word, step out of the way and let Jesus speak to the congregation through the narrative of the Bible. No altar calls here, just a persistent and all encompassing pointing to the cross.
I’m grateful for these gospel-solid sermons in which I am shown over and over again that my salvation is based on Jesus and His work on the cross and does not rely on my efforts.
No tricks or gimmicks, no straining to keep things tied to the news cycle to stay “relevant”, no A-B tested jokes, just grace-filled biblical exposition. Hiawatha’s style is to just pick a book of the Bible and preach through it over the course of 6 months or a year, which is great for a few reasons (seeing necessary context, forcing us to deal with awkward parts that would otherwise get skipped, etc.).
