Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

010: Black Country, New Road on Hey You Listen to This
Q: How does a change of line up prompt a change in creative direction?
The lineup change brings a new source material and arrangements, which are filtered through the same minds and tastes, leading to a different but recognizably 'us' sound; the core process remains but the outcomes feel distinct.
010: Black Country, New Road on Hey You Listen to This
Q: On the note of sound, you know, you've pivoted on this latest record to having Georgia Mae and Tyler on lead vocal duties. How do you think you've developed as a group with the writing and recording of this album?
The three vocalists change the songwriting process since songs come from three different places, and using vocals as an instrument expands the sonic world, creating a more instrumental vocal texture while keeping the band's core dynamics intact.
019: Jeff Goldblum on Hey You Listen to This
Q: Can you tell me about your earliest musical memory?
Goldblum describes his childhood around music, from his father singing lullabies to early exposure to jazz through Erroll Garner, songbooks, and family records, which laid the foundation for his lifelong love of music and eventual pursuit of jazz performance.
021: M. Ward on Hey You Listen to This
Q: For anybody who isn't familiar with your music, can you quickly introduce yourself and a little bit of what you do?
I mainly produce music for other artists and also make my own records; I fell in love with the guitar in high school and that has been my main vocation and avocation.
018: Mark William Lewis on Hey You Listen to This
Q: Nice to meet you. Mark, for anyone who isn't familiar with you or your music, could you just introduce yourself?
Mark introduces himself as a London-based musician who releases under his own name, discusses his self-released beginnings since 2019, and notes that he has a four-person band for live performances.
