  • Great Topics — Could Use Some Work

I like this podcast, but the episodes are usually a bit disappointing and I can’t quite put my finger on why. I click on ones that catch my attention and then the conversation will end up being different than the title indicates or the questions that are being asked are too vague or broad. I think this podcast has great potential if they improve their interview skills! Still one of my go-to podcasts for new herbal medicine information.

  • Off topic, ramble, unrelated

I wanted to love this podcast. I found it incredibly off topic of herbal studies MOST of the time. The guests go on tangents MOST are unrelated. I find only a few sentences of each 40 minute conversation that I resonate with in my desire to learn more about herbalism. Alot of the conversations go in the direction of political feelings of the guest & happenings/changes in the herbal community which does not interest me in anyway. This isnt a podcast for a beginner wanting to learn or really any ... more

  • Interviewer is weak

Good people and topics but the interviewer is too unfocused; interviews could use direction, introspection or deeper inquiry. Came for the Wild Carrot Herbals interview bc I love that company but it was just listening to friends talk about how much they like different places in the world, towns, etc and making plans to talk again. Didn’t come away knowing much more if anything about the Wild Carrot story. Felt annoyed!

  • LOVE 🌿

Love this podcast so much! It brings a wide lense of the herbal world into focus to discuss current matters. It does a great job at staying mostly science/botany focused with great historical references and isn’t afraid to bring up current situations in relation to the herbal world 💕

How to Run a Farm-Based Herb School | Featuring Crystal Moore-Stevens
Q: Will you share where you're joining us from today and what plants you're growing, gathering, or processing right now?
Crystal describes her farm in Godfrey, Illinois, the Bluff City Bazaar apothecary stand, and the seasonal harvests—from fig leaves to saffron—while highlighting the variety of herbs and fungi she grows and processes.

Cultivating Sustainable Forestry Programs | Featuring Andrea Miller
Q: What other products or opportunities exist beyond ginseng and golden seal?
Besides the primary crops, forest farming can include decorative materials, crafts, and using invasive species for marketable products like basketry, which broadens revenue streams.
Cultivating Sustainable Forestry Programs | Featuring Andrea Miller
Q: How long do these crops take to mature, and what does that mean for someone starting out?
Many forest crops are long-term investments, with ginseng taking eight years or more to mature and golden seal taking four to six years, which means growers should plan for a multi-year horizon and consider supplemental income strategies.
Cultivating Sustainable Forestry Programs | Featuring Andrea Miller
Q: What makes a good site for forest botanicals and why is it so important?
Choosing a good growing site is critical because forest botanicals are not traditional crops, and without the right conditions they may not thrive; site selection underpins the success of forest farming efforts.
