  • One of my top listens

I’m from a small town in NZ and my family’s faith culture was significantly shaped by all the stuff flowing out of the Toronto Blessing, and the American “prophetic, televangelist” network. Thanks to Tara Jean, I’ve learned so much about the history of the “flavour” of Christianity I was raised with - and similarly, have now discarded. I REALLY appreciate season 11 because I was raised with all of the elements of the “spirit of fear”, which took becoming involved in a megachurch and then decons... more

  • I needed this to heal from my experience. AMAZING!

I was apart of the Pentecostal UPC from 12 to 18 years old.

I have a lot of religious trauma- I have been trying to get back into church- but it’s hard after my cult experience. I prayed just this Sunday for a way to get past it. Then I found this podcast. Finding a fellow survivor helps it along. Thank you for putting this out there! ❤️❤️

  • Deconstruction

I’m currently deconstructing my own theism and this podcast has a very direct but yet gentle way of having me question and think critically of some of my long held beliefs. Thanks for being the voice I needed to hear

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Art of Deconstructing
Q: What do you hope audiences take away about abortion and faith after watching your film?
Grace aims for a nuanced conversation that acknowledges moral complexity, the humanity of those affected, and a move away from shame, encouraging empathy and a broader understanding of women's experiences within faith communities.
The Art of Deconstructing
Q: What was your initial approach to the film's autobiographical elements, and how did you balance personal truth with storytelling?
Grace explains she started from her lived experience but used it as a springboard to tell Maxine's journey, drawing distance and creative liberties to broaden the narrative beyond her own life while preserving emotional truth.
Tongues of Fire: The Truth About Glossolalia
Q: What about tongues without a faith framework—can there be non-religious occurrences or interpretations?
There are non-faith contexts where people report similar experiential states, but the strongest connections observed are within religious or spiritual practices where surrender and emotional expression are integral to the experience.
Tongues of Fire: The Truth About Glossolalia
Q: Does your research back Newberg's findings that glossolalia involves brain activity outside the language centers?
Yes, the research supports a distinct neural signature for speaking in tongues, characterized by prefrontal deactivation and a separation from language areas, indicating surrender rather than language production as the core neural process.
S10E7: Why Can't You Just Say Sorry?
Q: If you were to speak to Patricia King face-to-face right now, what would you say to her?
A direct plea for accountability and an apology, highlighting the harm caused and demanding she acknowledge and address it openly.
