  • Culty gets it right

I've been bingeing the "A Little Bit Culty" podcast by Sarah Edmondson and Anthony Ames and I recommend you do the same. It was started about four years ago during the pandemic, but those first episodes are still highly relevant and features interviews with heavy hitters like Dr. Janja Anne Lalich and Steven Hassan, PhD. Five stars.

  • Enjoy the topics

I really enjoy the topics and learning about all the culty things and MLM's right under our noses. What I hate is the snarky political references. Why can't you leave that out? Obviously you are still culty in the way you have to inflict insult on anyone who doesn't think your way. Sad bc you have great guests.

  • Great if you’re white or a Zionist

There is some interesting content here and empathetic interviews with predominantly white people. However, throughout the show, there is a constant undercurrent of white feminism, heteronormativity and white supremacy. Never more evident than on a recent episode where Israel‘s genocide was side-stepped, Judaism was conflated with Zionism and Palestinian nationality with Islam (entirely erasing Palestinian Christians and atheists) to suggest that the greatest threat to Palestinian women is not th... more

  • Required “Reading”

Absolutely love the work Sarah and Nippy do. Their podcast should be required listening so that everyone can educated themselves against the dangers of coercive control. Wish I’d had access to their knowledge when I was younger—could have saved me a lot of grief!

  • This is my favorite podcast! It's just so good! As someone who has never been in a cult, and also as a parent and teacher, I never miss an episode. All of my students and my kids get regular conversations about coercive control, healthy relationships, and what grooming really looks like. Plus, it's impossible not to love Sarah and Nippy! This work is so important! Do yourself a favor and hit subscribe on this one for sure!

My Cult Your Cult: Sean Prophet on the Church Universal and Triumphant (Part 2)
Q: What do you think is important for people to know in terms of that journey for you?
It's a multi-step process where you need to deconstruct hierarchy and recognize your autonomy.
Dr. Ingrid Clayton and Fawn Stars: The Hidden Cost of People Pleasing (Part 1)
Q: In terms of recruitment and indoctrination, how do you see the Fawn response showing up in cult contexts?
Fawning is very common in any systems of power, including cults, where one has to leave vital aspects of themselves behind in order to belong and to get other needs met, leading to self-abandonment and manipulation.

Q: What do people need to know about you in your background that would give us a little bit of context as to why we're having this convo?
I am a clinical psychologist and trauma therapist, but primarily, I'm a trauma survivor. My experience in childhood made me feel like my trauma measured against others' experiences was not valid, and that kept me stuck in my healing for so long.
