  • Changing my review

For many years this was one of my favourite podcasts, however recently in two episodes, comments were made by the hosts that came across to me as dangerously racist and uninformed. I feel too afraid to even reach out to the hosts to talk about these things because I don’t trust my experience will be heard and I’m not prepared to have to explain myself. I have continued listening even after these episodes but decided to change my review here to reflect how those comments have impacted my view of ... more

  • Sarah and Nippy Rock

This podcast is one of the best! It’s personally helped me recognize and better cope with an abusive childhood and how/why I remained loyal to my abusers for so many years and kept falling for their obvious lies. It seems like most cult leaders are very much like abusive parents, only on a much larger scale.

What makes this podcast different is the insight and honesty that the hosts share about their daily struggles in re-entering a cult free life.

Their banter is delightful and funny. I would l... more

  • Nicely balanced, super real

I’ve listened to this show for many years, and I’ve really enjoyed its breadth and evolution. Nippy and Sarah bring a nice balance and variety through their “same church different pew” perspectives, to borrow an expression from my gramma. I’ve had some culty experiences in my life and this show has helped me parse out my questions and doubts. Plus, these two have zero interest in blowing smoke or posturing. Very, very refreshing. Thanks Sarah and Nip!

Your show and the wealth of knowledge and insight I’ve gained through listening to your awesome interviews has been sooo amazing! I’ve reflected on past relationships, groups and influencers in my own life that displayed culty dynamics. I’m just so grateful to you Sarah and Nippy! I got your book today and look forward to reading and sharing it! Keep up the great podca... more

  • Kinda ridiculous

They couldn’t tell when they joined a cult, but we’re supposed to take their advice on other “cult” type things? Uh, that’s alright.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

International School of Temple Arts (ISTA): Two Insiders Expose Consent, Control, and Cult Dynamics (Part 2)
Q: How did the mediation and external consultants affect accountability efforts?
They often whitewashed the image, kept investigations within ISTA's orbit, and protected the leadership, which led survivors to feel re-traumatized and further disempowered.
International School of Temple Arts (ISTA): Two Insiders Expose Consent, Control, and Cult Dynamics (Part 2)
Q: What drew you to leave ISTA after level two?
The combination of coercive control, coercive sexual dynamics, and the realization that attempts to fix the system were surface-level and ineffective, followed by direct experiences of coercion and manipulation that could not be reconciled with integrity.
International School of Temple Arts (ISTA): Two Insiders Expose Consent, Control, and Cult Dynamics (Part 1)
Q: Can you describe a specific red flag you noticed early on?
Lina details that facilitators openly discussed sexual interactions with students, which should have been a major warning sign but was rationalized as a normal part of the program.
International School of Temple Arts (ISTA): Two Insiders Expose Consent, Control, and Cult Dynamics (Part 1)
Q: What was the hook for you when you first encountered ISTA?
Cara describes being drawn in by the promise of healing, empowerment, and sexual energy, aided by a glossy marketing approach and the perception of a prestigious education in sacred sexuality.
Holy Disobedience: Melissa Duge Spiers on the Seventh Day Adventist Church (Part 2)
Q: Did you ever have another confrontation with your father, or where are you at with your parents now?
Melissa describes a future conversation planned with her parents but emphasizes that truth may be limited due to their age and health, and she has largely accepted that closure may be unattainable.
