  • This is for the Exvangelicals

I love Jubilee, her story is so powerful and necessary to bring attention to the goings on and abusive tactics that churches use to keep people trapped in their cult spaces. I’m so glad she’s using her platform to uplift other ex Christian voices and I love the gusted she’s brought on both of her podcasts!

  • Amazing listening experience

This is my first podcast listening experience ever. It is now my go to during my closing night shift. I gasp and talk with the guest while I clean. Everyone says what I’ve been thinking and feeling for years. My family ran a “home church” during my teenage years and we had missionaries and people from the church living in our home. I feel so seen after hearing everyone’s stories and know I’m not alone. Jubilee thank you for sharing your story and others with the community. I can’t wait to hear ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

67. From Megachurch Pastor to Skeptic Pastor (Jeremy Steele's Story)
Q: What year did you feel the breaking point, when you realized you could not continue with the megachurch model?
The breaking point came around 2019 when the alignment toward a political and budget-driven mega-church approach clashed with his ethics, leading him to step back from that environment and pursue a path focused on spiritual practices that are inclusive and psychologically healthy.
67. From Megachurch Pastor to Skeptic Pastor (Jeremy Steele's Story)
Q: Did you get any negative reactions from other pastors that ever heard you say that you weren't sure if God existed?
Yes, mostly from lay leaders or pastors who felt threatened by uncertainty; the main pushback came from non-pastor leaders who worried about how such honesty would reflect on the church. He found that being open about uncertainty could actually be disarming and inviting for conversations, not eroding faith for everyone.
59. Abused by My Therapist for Years (Mia Chard's Story)
Q: How did you move toward accountability, and what were the challenges in reporting and seeking justice?
She details gathering evidence, recording sessions, engaging licensing and police processes, and the emotional complexity of facing delays, church pushback, and public scrutiny, but ultimately achieving accountability through legal avenues and media attention.
59. Abused by My Therapist for Years (Mia Chard's Story)
Q: What happened in the therapy relationship that crossed ethical lines, and how did that unfold over time?
She describes a grooming process where the bishop facilitated therapy, escalating daily contact, text messages, and a sense of safety tied to the therapist, which gradually turned into coercive behavior and eventual sexual abuse.
59. Abused by My Therapist for Years (Mia Chard's Story)
Q: Can you tell us how your upbringing in the LDS Church shaped your understanding of purity and sexuality?
She explains that purity culture was intensely enforced—abstinence, virtuous conduct, and shame around natural feelings—creating an environment where sexual abuse could be internalized and minimized for years before being acknowledged.
