  • Willingness to Stand Up

I listened to your most recent episode. I always appreciate Project Upland’s willingness to speak the truth despite the repercussions. It is a wildly unpopular thing to do in the hunting industry. And I commend Harvesting Nature for releasing an episode as raw and real as this one. Keep up the good fight.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 264: Wild American Foodscapes - Hawai'i
Q: How has Hawaii's food system evolved from its pre-contact roots to today?
The episode traces a shift from a highly interconnected, self-sufficient system—built around taro, fish ponds, and local foraging—to a period of external imports and plantation-era disruptions, then toward revival through language, voyaging, and indigenous knowledge preservation.
Episode 254: The Best Wild Game Recipes for the Holidays
Q: What wild game do you feel like will be a showstopper at the table?
Geese have traditionally been a holiday staple in Europe, and they can be cooked low at 300 degrees before crisping the skin at high heat, and smaller ducks can also provide a flavorful centerpiece.
Episode 254: The Best Wild Game Recipes for the Holidays
Q: Is there anything we should be avoiding when it comes to roasts for holiday meals?
Avoid flank, brisket, and eye of round for large gatherings due to their size and cooking difficulty. It's better to choose cuts you are familiar with to avoid any mistakes while cooking for guests.
Episode 243: Joe Cermele Talks Fishing Culture, Adventures, and the Stories Behind the Catch
Q: What do you think makes fishing culture so compelling to write about?
Joe reflects that fishing culture is rooted in relatable experiences among anglers, transcending the act of fishing to include stories and connections made along the way.
Episode 243: Joe Cermele Talks Fishing Culture, Adventures, and the Stories Behind the Catch
Q: How do you think that the cook and the food part of it is just as important as the catch and the adventure?
Joe shares that he enjoys eating fresh fish but asserts that the whole experience, including food and storytelling is what makes fishing memorable, rather than just the catch.
