  • Always an interesting listen

I came across the hammer and chisel podcast when Zach Even-esh was a guest on the show and since then I have been listening to every episode. Heck gives an interesting perspective being an ex football player, high-level strength & conditioning coach, power lifter, and nutritionist. Though I am older (his father’s generation), the insight that he gives each week is helpful to my own journey and I enjoy listening. Highly recommend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep.66: Nick DiMarco, Elite training for football players
Q: How have you seen NIL and transfer portals affect the ability to develop athletes?
The turnover in rosters has increased and now coaches must integrate more transfers while still maintaining a developmental focus for freshmen.
Ep.63: Skip Hill, Bodybuilding OG
Q: Could you comment on the differences between bodybuilding training methodologies between now and previous generations?
Skip speaks to the differences in genetic potential, recovery, and training intensity, noting that modern generations may benefit from not training as hard as past bodybuilders, resulting in better overall physiques.
Ep.63: Skip Hill, Bodybuilding OG
Q: How do you begin to implement skip loading when dieting a bodybuilder down?
Typically, it's about two to three weeks into a diet before someone may skip load, allowing for their glycogen levels to deplete and create momentum with the diet before implementing the strategy.
Ep.63: Skip Hill, Bodybuilding OG
Q: How did you get started on this whole online community in bodybuilding?
Skip candidly shares that he stumbled upon the online community for learning during the mid-90s when dial-up internet was prevalent and eventually found a path to providing value by sharing what he had learned.
Ep.62: Chris Duffin, Peptides For Human Optimization
Q: What's a situation where somebody might choose or should choose an actual growth hormone over one of these growth hormone releasing peptides?
Chris Duffin states that one might choose actual growth hormone if they want a much higher bump in growth hormone levels or if the cost of growth hormone is cheaper than peptides.
