  • Still a great podcast

I’ve been listening to political podcasts for years now and this one is still my favorite. To repeat the past reviewer I’d love to hear from Bruce Mehlman. Also, if there’s a way you can infiltrate the Democratic party to keep them from choosing far left socialist candidates in 2028 that would be great. I can’t handle another 4 years of Maga.

  • Please listen to reviews

I love this podcast, and I’ve listened to it for years. I am almost to the point of not listening if Heilemann is part of it. He literally interrupts people constantly and takes a long, long time to “set up” a question to either the guests or David/Mike. It’s just dreadful. It’s getting awkward too because you can tell sometimes David and Mike try to get him to the question (or his point) faster, but he literally can’t read the room. John - Stop talking so much. Stop interrupting. Please m... more

  • Please…

Please consider LESS Rahm Emanuel. I don’t mind that he’s been around forever (and wants to run for President? Seriously?) It’s that he has so little to say. And what he does he does so petulantly. As a guest, he’s no catch. Just another former politician trying to hang on to relevance. I get the good ol’ boys vibe of the podcast. Just gets a little, ahem, old.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Golden State of Play (with Ron Brownstein)
Q: What's your take on the Maine race and Platner?
Brownstein and the hosts agree that Platner's challenge hinges on democratic-leaning voters' concerns about Trump-era corruption and whether the electorate will reward Platner's alignment with anti-establishment sentiment without alienating older white women who have shown loyalty to Collins.
Fool’s Cubic Zirconia (with Sarah Longwell)
Q: Does it matter who leads the Democratic autopsy process after Ken Martin?
The hosts suggest that while leadership questions matter, the bigger issue is whether the process and its presentation can produce credible, actionable insights rather than a spectacle; the episode leans toward wanting more robust, clearly communicated outcomes.
Strait to the Point (with Jonathan Martin)
Q: What should Democrats do to address their branding and gains problem in 2028?
Leaders should focus on rebuilding a convincing domestic policy narrative, less polarizing messaging, and selecting a candidate who can credibly define a constructive path, while leveraging the coalition-building necessary to win in key states.
Race to the Bottom (with Addisu Demissie)
Q: What changed your mind about Ranked Choice voting?
I started skeptical but then learned more, recognizing that ranked choice broadens coalitions and incentives candidates to appeal beyond their base, which can improve general-election competitiveness.
The Cost of Not Listening (with Dave Wasserman)
Q: Wasserman, will Republicans in the Congress be watching these results and will it stiffen their spines at all?
He notes that retirements are high and that local primary dynamics and district maps will influence congressional courage; overall, results may nudge incumbents but are not determinative by themselves.
