  • Still a great podcast

I’ve been listening to political podcasts for years now and this one is still my favorite. To repeat the past reviewer I’d love to hear from Bruce Mehlman. Also, if there’s a way you can infiltrate the Democratic party to keep them from choosing far left socialist candidates in 2028 that would be great. I can’t handle another 4 years of Maga.

  • Please listen to reviews

I love this podcast, and I’ve listened to it for years. I am almost to the point of not listening if Heilemann is part of it. He literally interrupts people constantly and takes a long, long time to “set up” a question to either the guests or David/Mike. It’s just dreadful. It’s getting awkward too because you can tell sometimes David and Mike try to get him to the question (or his point) faster, but he literally can’t read the room. John - Stop talking so much. Stop interrupting. Please m... more

  • Please…

Please consider LESS Rahm Emanuel. I don’t mind that he’s been around forever (and wants to run for President? Seriously?) It’s that he has so little to say. And what he does he does so petulantly. As a guest, he’s no catch. Just another former politician trying to hang on to relevance. I get the good ol’ boys vibe of the podcast. Just gets a little, ahem, old.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Cost of Not Listening (with Dave Wasserman)
Q: Wasserman, will Republicans in the Congress be watching these results and will it stiffen their spines at all?
He notes that retirements are high and that local primary dynamics and district maps will influence congressional courage; overall, results may nudge incumbents but are not determinative by themselves.
The Cost of Not Listening (with Dave Wasserman)
Q: John, don't encourage Murphy in slandering our fair city, okay? That's all I'm saying. This has to stop.
Wasserman explains a straightforward framework: look at recent special elections where turnout and margins diverged from presidential-year trends; this helps explain why generic ballot numbers may not map neatly onto Democratic performance in specific races.
Gravity of the Situation (with Rahm Emanuel)
Q: How do you view the current strategy around Iran and the administration's handling of the war?
Rahm Emanuel and the hosts describe it as improvised and reactive, warning that lack of a coherent long-term plan risks alienating allies and damaging U.S. credibility, while stressing the need for a credible, consistent approach.
It’s the Theology, Stupid (with Doug Sosnik)
Q: Hi, Hacks. I'm John from Nashville. Trump seems to be chopping up his cabinet right now. Is there a way around the 25th Amendment here?
Doug explains that while the 25th Amendment is a live option in theory, in today's political climate it's highly unlikely to be pulled off, given the loyalty of Trump's cabinet and the political realities around removing a president.
TACO Tuesday (with Morris Katz)
Q: What are the three main strategic explanations Morris Katz offers for Trump's Iran decision and its political fallout?
Katz emphasizes that the move is driven by political signaling to the MAGA base, the strategic calculus of costs versus benefits for voters facing rising prices, and the broader narrative battle about who controls information and media messaging in a highly fractured media environment.
