  • Thank you! It is time!!

This is so refreshing! As an educational leader I have been fighting against the traditional tide of education that one size fits all. Students are more than a grade level and their creativity and passion needs to by unlocked not confined. Many teachers want to break free however are trapped in a system that has limited them and students from thriving. Thank you for being bold and for leading change. Bravo!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S2E326: The End of "Because I Said So": An Unfiltered Look at Student Self-Governance In Action
Q: Let's talk about why the town hall approach isn't just a policing mechanism, but a way for students to own their culture.
Gaby explains that town halls are framed as a collaborative process where students read and uphold community standards, elect defenders of democracy, and use structured discussion and voting to resolve issues, which promotes ownership rather than enforcement.
S2E328: I Hate Reading: Dealing with Reading Resistance
Q: What advice do you have for parents with an older child who is behind in reading?
Take the eighth-grade cliff seriously, intervene early, and seek help promptly. Reframe the reading experience to meet the child at their level, potentially lowering or adjusting content to build back foundational skills, and use tools or programs that tailor the pace to the student's needs.
S2E328: I Hate Reading: Dealing with Reading Resistance
Q: What is the literacy issue in our country right now?
The issue is multi-faceted: a shift to a sound bite world, less emphasis on sustained writing, overemphasis on test mastery rather than learning how to think and imagine, and a decline in family and early-child reading habits. The hosts and Tim discuss how to reconnect kids with reading through interest-driven content, pacing, and supportive teachers.
S2E324: The Wealthy Student Myth, Our 'iPhone-Style' Updates, and Screen Time Truths
Q: How do you address criticisms that the Alpha model only serves rich kids?
The guest argues that there are multiple price points and scholarships across campuses, demonstrating that the model can work for a variety of backgrounds, and emphasizes that one cannot assume a student's potential from socioeconomic status alone.
S2E324: The Wealthy Student Myth, Our 'iPhone-Style' Updates, and Screen Time Truths
Q: What are the core tenets that make the guide model work across campuses?
The guest explains a structured training process, ongoing direct coaching, and close collaboration with a lead guide on each campus, which allows for real-time observation, feedback, and tailored interventions for individual students.
