Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sexual Integrity & Queer Intimacy: With Dr. Steven Davidson
Q: What does it look like to bring sexual honesty into dating early on without scaring someone away, and how do you balance transparency with oversharing?
The guidance is to initiate conversations about sexuality on the first date when possible, assess the other person's openness, and frame discussions around self-acceptance and mutual compatibility, thereby reducing future drama and fostering genuine connection.
Sexual Integrity & Queer Intimacy: With Dr. Steven Davidson
Q: Sexual integrity is about the true integration of your sexual identity. Can you walk us through what that looks like in practice for someone who has spent years suppressing or fragmenting parts of themselves?
Dr. Davidson explains that practice starts with honesty with oneself, then expanding transparency to trusted partners, education about sexuality, and gradually embracing the parts of identity that were suppressed, which reduces internal conflict and improves relationship honesty.
Beautiful Masks in Gay Dating: Shame, Secrecy & Emotional Availability with Frank Spinelli
Q: What is one thing you wish queer men understood about shame so it stops controlling their love lives?
Shame is not a moral failing; you exist as you are and should be unapologetic about that. Authenticity will attract partners who value you for who you are, and you are never too much or not enough.
Beautiful Masks in Gay Dating: Shame, Secrecy & Emotional Availability with Frank Spinelli
Q: What do you hope readers take away from Precious Friends, Murder in Sag Harbor beyond it being a gay story?
I hope readers see that the characters are good people who face universal challenges—trauma, aging, and the storms of relationships—regardless of sexual orientation, and that the story is really about marriage, identity, and resilience.
Beautiful Masks in Gay Dating: Shame, Secrecy & Emotional Availability with Frank Spinelli
Q: So Frank, what drew you to this story and what were you really exploring underneath the plot?
I wanted to explore in a fictional way how shame really affects a marriage, focusing on an older gay couple in the glamorous Hamptons and how secret affairs and aging test their authenticity and love, while also linking it to broader themes in my non-fiction work on shame.
