  • Maybe give it some time?

I’m 15 minutes in and the guest is just getting on. The first 15 minutes is sound effects and commercials. Hard for my ADHD brain to get into so will miss out on the good content because I’m not wasting time sitting through the money making junk.

  • Saddle Up, it’s Work

I really enjoy these guys and their banter. I hope more current members get to appear on the podcast. Great humor and good stories. Sometimes I don’t listen to the 2 hour + podcast episodes, but I realize that many retired members and career firefighters love that. Highly recommend this podcast, love it when they ‘bust balls’!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.292 | FDNY CAPTAIN | JOHN CERIELLO
Q: How did you decide to pursue a role with Rescue 1 and later Squad 18?
It involved a combination of mentorship, opportunities presented by colleagues, and a desire to expand learning beyond a single engine company. A pivotal moment was when a fellow firefighter recommended pursuing a role in the elite units to challenge oneself and gain broader experience.
GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.284 | FDNY | LT. RAY STRONG
Q: How did Ray get into motorcycling and start the Axemen chapter?
Ray explains that the idea grew from a conversation in Rescue 4 and a desire to honor and give back to FDNY families, especially after 9/11. He gathered a core group from Rescue 4, formed the chapter in 2013, and used fundraising rides to support special needs children and other FDNY charitable causes.
GETTIN’ SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.285: FDNY | BATTALION CHIEF JOSEPH McHUGH
Q: What was your experience with promotions and transfers early on?
I moved around several engine and truck companies to gain experience, learned from seasoned chiefs, and ultimately found my niche in the Safety Battalion, where I learned to lead safety initiatives citywide.
GETTIN’ SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep.285: FDNY | BATTALION CHIEF JOSEPH McHUGH
Q: How did your career begin and what drew you to firefighting?
Growing up around a father who was a firefighter in Greenwich, I was constantly drawn to the firehouse, the trucks, and the culture of helping people; it felt like a natural path into the job.
GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep. 286 | FDNY | FF TOM LYNCH
Q: How did leadership and the union shape your career trajectory and retirement decision?
He discusses union involvement, leadership changes, the push for EMS integration, and the balance between risking overtime for pension security and deciding when it was time to retire, influenced by injuries and family considerations.
