Thank you for spreading the word. So invaluable

Thank you, Howie, for sharing. That gut punch when I hear someone flippantly label themselves ‘a little OCD’ in front of a loved one who would probably prefer walking on hot coals to publicly discussing actual OCD. You were the first person that I mentioned to said loved one as an example of success. It didn’t sink in until they saw you on a favorite YouTube channel and then I was told who you were. Any way in…

  • Don’t Over normalize it.

Since being diagnosed I have been recovering more than ever. NOCD has been part of that. I’m glad that we have this podcast. That being said I feel like it’s something that everyone could claim to have. If everyone has something, then it’s not a disorder. Also, why do I have to turn off vpn to play these shows? Keep up the good work.

OCD Made My Own Thoughts Feel Unsafe
Q: What kind of message would you want to send to those out there who might be wondering if they can have OCD and be in the mental health field?
Absolutely do it; my lived experience is a superpower in understanding a misunderstood population.
OCD Made My Own Thoughts Feel Unsafe
Q: How was it to accept response prevention for yourself and now teach response prevention to people?
It was hard, but once I started doing it, I felt better quickly, making it almost addicting to get better and see positive changes.
OCD Made My Own Thoughts Feel Unsafe
Q: What was that experience like for you to maybe hear for the very first time some of these things that people had been shamed or scared to ever talk about?
It was empowering to see people reach out who were fearful, and to support them in getting set up with a therapist and seeing results.
My OCD hit a breaking point on a Netflix set. This is what happened next.
Q: What do you think about that looking back at that now?
I think a lot of reasons I didn't take the final step were due to external support from my family, therapist, and friends who motivated and encouraged me. It's crucial to believe that things can change, even at the lowest points.
My OCD hit a breaking point on a Netflix set. This is what happened next.
Q: What was it like going from the difference between therapy pre-ERP and then receiving ERP?
Before ERP, therapy felt like putting a bandaid on the issue and actually feeding into compulsions, while ERP was difficult but ultimately very helpful for long-term recovery.
