  • Useful and hopeful

Thoughtful and practical political podcast. Moving beyond punditry, this show helps to uphold a sense of hope and provide listeners with actually useful tools for their “civic toolbox.” Really looking at the role of people power and the workings of our democracy.

  • Moderate supermajority

As a confirmed purple this is something I can share with extremists on both sides who have made my state (MO) a democracy no more. Both sides responsible. So grateful for sincere problem solving instead of blaming.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Doctor for the Senate: Abdul El-Sayed
Q: What does your approach to democracy look like in a Senate that is just one of 100 members?
Rather than chasing ideological purity, I want to be a bridge-builder who talks to people where they are, across communities and media ecosystems. The goal is to expand participation by persisting in persuasive conversations, listening, and showing up in 90 cities and 300 events to demonstrate consistency between words and actions—so people can trust that the government serves them, not the other way around.
Doctor for the Senate: Abdul El-Sayed
Q: How do you see Medicare for All realistically being achieved, and what would it look like in practice?
Medicare for All is not a fantasy; it's a common-sense reform that shifts the conversation from how to patch a broken system to how to guarantee universal coverage with a strong, efficient public framework. It would mean removing the large deductibles and out-of-pocket costs that destroy families' finances, ensuring care is portable, and letting people choose care without the fear of losing insurance when they change jobs or get laid off.
Doctor for the Senate: Abdul El-Sayed
Q: Tell us what prompted you to decide to run and why we need a candidate like you right now.
I grew up with a deep sense that opportunity should be universal, not limited by where you're born or who your family is. My work in public health showed me how often politics determines whether people get basic protections—like clean water, affordable care, and safe schools. Running for Senate is about turning what I've learned in the field into policy that actually expands opportunity and counters the influence of corporate interests in our politics.
See Through Copaganda: Alec Karakatsanis
Q: What kind of political philosophy does Copaganda advance, and why is it dangerous?
Copaganda advances an authoritarian, power-serving narrative that positions security forces and punishment as the primary means of social order, often masking underlying inequalities and suppressing broader democratic participation; its danger lies in depoliticizing the public and normalizing expansive surveillance and control.
See Through Copaganda: Alec Karakatsanis
Q: What is Copaganda, and how do you define it?
Copaganda is a three-part phenomenon that narrows the conception of safety, misleads the public about crime trends, and promotes more and more punishment as a solution; it relies on selective sourcing and framing to manufacture consent for policing and mass incarceration.
