  • Audio Quality is terrible

Content of the podcast is good. Hard listen however as the audio quality is just terrible - echoes, feedback, different audio quality between individuals talking, people breathing down their own mics etc etc

    makes it a hard listen.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How fragile are our economic systems?
Q: Could you tell us then, in a nutshell, what the report is about and why the Institute published it?
The report examines how environmental and social risks intersect and why understanding these interlinkages is essential for accurately pricing financial risks and protecting vulnerable communities.
What impact do geopolitical events have on international advice?
Q: How is this affecting where people choose to live and which jurisdictions they move to?
Clients are re-evaluating UK residency due to non-domicile changes, with increased interest in places like Italy, Monaco, Switzerland, Singapore, and notably Dubai for diversification and security; London remains a wealth-hub but faces competitive pressure from tax regimes elsewhere.
What impact do geopolitical events have on international advice?
Q: So, Jeremy, is geopolitical tax and uncertainty contributing to a fundamental shift in the way internationally mobile clients are managing their wealth?
Yes, wealthy families have long been internationally mobile and have had contingency plans; now, due to events like policy changes and regional instability, they are actively re-evaluating residency and structures while maintaining access to liquid assets and diversifying holdings.
UK equity valuations no longer as compelling for income investors
Q: Hillary, on that fixed income topic, I guess higher inflation and rate expectations kind of the kryptonite for a fixed income manager. How are you thinking about all of that?
We maintain a lower-duration, blended approach of investment-grade and high-yield bonds, focusing on issuers with stable free cash flow and prudent capital structures. The goal is to generate a decent yield that can cushion price deterioration while still allowing for some capital appreciation over time.
UK equity valuations no longer as compelling for income investors
Q: Nick, if we come to you first, markets have rapidly re-priced interest rate expectations in the US and UK this year. And inflation is now baked into many calculations. But how is that impacting how you run the income strategies that you look after at Morningstar?
We've kept a bias toward fixed income due to higher volatility and inflation, while selectively increasing equity exposure at the shorter end as yields look more attractive. In practice, this means a cautious tilt to fixed income with opportunistic exposure to equities where fundamentals and valuations look compelling, plus a search for alternatives and diversification to cushion income returns.
