Some good stuff here but also a lot of dross. The presenters seem to want to be media luvvies (big egos) but frequently fail at the basics. It would be useful to have ex-professional investors or at least someone with a finance background involved. One of the presenters couldn’t even pronounce either “Carillion” or “Stiefel” correctly. Some of the interviews with PMs are interesting but the interviewer often fails to ask the most pertinent question or misunderstands performance numbers. One of t... more

  • Feminist junk on an otherwise good show.

Spreads misandrist propaganda promoting the brain rot falsehood that the gender-pay gap is the fault of men.

It is actually the result of female career and lifestyle choices.

Take your complaints elsewhere and stop ruining an otherwise good show.

Enjoy both the regular weekly podcast but a special mention goes to the Lee and the IC series for a great in depth conversation looking at smaller stocks in much more detail.

The weekly podcast is good with a round up of market news along with company specific updates. I like their style - informative yet not flashy and very British.

I’ve been introduced to the IC through listening to these podcasts over the past 9 months and have now become a subscriber to the magazine too - surely the po... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How to invest under Andy Burnham: Lee and the IC
Q: How does John filter thousands of shares and decide what to invest in?
He uses a broad, common-sense framework: evaluate price/earnings, dividend yield, management's language, and the willingness of directors to have skin in the game, then build a cohesive 'jigsaw' of factors to assess value and potential.
Meeting with Fevara’s CEO: Lee and the IC
Q: Can you briefly walk us through the logic for the split in Carr's Group and why shareholders were given the option to stay invested or exit?
The split created a focused, pure-play agricultural supplements business (Fevara) with a clear investment thesis, a loyal shareholder base, and the potential for higher growth and returns as the new standalone entity continues to pursue organic expansion and selective acquisitions.
‘Bottlenecks are the best way to benefit from AI’: Ali Unwin of Polar Capital Technology
Q: How do you view the Magnificent Seven, and why are Nvidia and Google positioned the way they are in your portfolio?
Ali discusses being underweight the Mag7 while holding Nvidia and Google due to strategic theses on supply/demand dynamics, AI leadership, chips and ecosystems, and the likelihood that frontier AI capabilities will continue to drive growth even as incumbent software models face disruption.
‘Bottlenecks are the best way to benefit from AI’: Ali Unwin of Polar Capital Technology
Q: What does introducing more AI into your research process and investing look like?
The team describes hiring an operations specialist to drive AI adoption, building screening tools and process automation across the investment cycle, and using AI to expand coverage and improve decision-making while maintaining human oversight on investments.
‘Bottlenecks are the best way to benefit from AI’: Ali Unwin of Polar Capital Technology
Q: And you and your team have the not exactly easy job of trying to outperform a benchmark that is made up entirely of tech companies. So ... AI.
Ali Unwin explains that they are excited about AI, view models as differentiated with genuine returns, and use a structured AI lens to avoid being exposed to the wrong kinds of AI beneficiaries, while embedding AI into their research and portfolio process to find the big winners.
