  • Lazy Labor Bashing

The constant Labor bashing by Merryn is getting old and is just so intellectually lazy. The key issues of UK are not because of labor policies it’s because of brexit and thatcher.

Too many Reform talking points disrupt some really interesting financial analysis. Surprised at the lack of balance on Bloomberg.

  • AI Tech USA

Love the show Merryn but why are you a perma bear on tech and now AI - past 5 years it’s been the only real game in town even this year whilst the Nasdaq has trailed Europe / UK the pure play Texh and AI funds like PCT / ATT have outperformed- I just feel sad for all the people that keep heeding your pov and don’t act as a result - they have lost a lot of money. You would serve to at least put a more rounded perspective

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Live From The Master Investor Show: Jim Mellon and Stephen Yiu
Q: Stephen, given the AI/data-center discussion, where do you see the most compelling investment themes in the near term?
Stephen points to AI infrastructure and energy-efficient data-center components, like cooling and fiber optics, plus selective exposure to energy-related plays (gas turbines, uranium) that support the AI build-out without chasing overvalued cloud software platforms.
Live From The Master Investor Show: Jim Mellon and Stephen Yiu
Q: John, you wrote a piece suggesting the UK economy had a rough luck due to pre-war conditions. Can you outline the main challenges facing the UK right now?
John argues that the core issues are high debt, limited appetite for cutting public spending, and a policy environment that makes growth through traditional channels difficult, with inflation dynamics and energy costs complicating any positive trajectory.
Andy Haldane on Britain’s Fiscal Squeeze and Growth Problem
Q: Where do you see rates going from here, especially for the housing market?
The expectation has shifted from rapid rate cuts to caution; inflationary pressures have changed, and if energy prices stay high, rates may stay higher or be held steady, with housing activity likely to track sideways in the near term.
Andy Haldane on Britain’s Fiscal Squeeze and Growth Problem
Q: Where would you envisage the spending cuts coming from, given welfare and pensions are a large portion of expenditure?
The discussion centers on targeting welfare and pension allocations, with consideration of reforming the triple lock and overall welfare architecture to make room for defence without compromising social protections.
Andy Haldane on Britain’s Fiscal Squeeze and Growth Problem
Q: Is there any hope that you can find in the UK's fiscal situation?
Yes, there is hope, but it requires hard choices and credible spending cuts to create space for defence and other priorities, along with structural reforms to growth and investment.
