  • Powerful

I’ve been listening to this Podcast for years. Somehow, seemingly mundane subjects are brought to life. A poet gives more insight on religion than any clergy has. A little neighborhood’s complex history is played out over the span of less than an hour. A minor kerfuffle draws out a complex and poignant issue. My heart sings when I hear this podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Fronteras: Cultural heritage as a tool to address and adapt to climate change
Q: And how do communities with different languages and borders handle these initiatives?
The answer emphasizes adapting training and resources to local contexts, inviting regional voices, and leveraging peer exchanges to tailor solutions to water, heat, and language needs across communities.
Fronteras: Cultural heritage as a tool to address and adapt to climate change
Q: So policy-wise, what does that entail?
The guest explains that integrating culture into policy means leveraging local heritage and traditional knowledge, using programs like circular economy initiatives to guide how cities plan, rehab, and educate about sustainable practices.
Fronteras: ¿Habla civil rights? MACRI’s 2026 Symposium brings leaders together to discuss contemporary issues
Q: Henry, what is the focus of your conversation at the MACRI symposium, and how does it relate to the broader civil rights mission mentioned by Sara?
Henry explains that the discussion will bring a financial and organizational perspective to civil rights, illustrating how nonprofits and communities mobilize resources to advance equity, and tying this to ongoing challenges and opportunities in Latino communities.
Fronteras: Coercion vs. collaboration – How a better foreign policy model can manage migration
Q: So what are some of the ways policy makers might want to consider foreign policy in managing migration, beyond border security?
Foreign policy should align other countries' interests with U.S. goals by fostering cooperation, providing development aid, and using targeted agreements (e.g., safe third country arrangements) to reduce migration pressures before people reach the border, while also coordinating across agencies like the State Department and DHS.
Fronteras: Coercion vs. collaboration – How a better foreign policy model can manage migration
Q: And can you maybe delineate, you know, what can Congress control as opposed to what an executive order can do?
Congress controls appropriations and the immigration statute, which shape enforcement, adjudication, and eligibility; the executive branch can implement priorities via regulations and executive actions, but these must fit within statutory boundaries and can be rolled back by future administrations.
