His grandfather was a huge motivational factor for him, as he swam at K-State in the 50s and even went to Olympic trials. Ryan grew up hearing stories about his grandfather, which inspired him to pursue swimming too.

Yes, she was. She went to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and she did turn fly. She was also a gator.
