  • No Propoganda, Please

Good content. Every time climate change is said, credibility and fact die a little. Enough with the propaganda. Where are the 'papers' on climate change? How does the incongruity of the climate change mantra and most recent So Cal fires (wettest preceding 12 months in years) rectify? Climate is guaranteed to change. Always has--always will. Models and epidemiological studies are poor science. Repeating something does not make it true. That is the definition of propaganda.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 44: Fire versus herbivory for oak woodland restoration
Q: Gina, can you tell us how this research can be used by managers, or what kind of recommendations you would propose?
The research suggests integrating livestock into marginal lands for restoration, particularly for land owners who can't use fire. This approach allows for managing woody sprouts while also benefiting livestock owners.
Episode 44: Fire versus herbivory for oak woodland restoration
Q: Lauren, could you tell us a little more about this paper? What's the elevator speech?
The paper discusses the restoration of Midwestern woodlands, focusing on the challenges of implementing this restoration due to site limitations for fire use and exploring how browsing and prescribed fire could work together.
Episode 40: Crown fires remove a fire-sensitive canopy dominant from oak-juniper woodlands: results from long-term monitoring of wildfires
Q: So how can management use or end research use this information to provide better habitat for the warbler?
Management can focus on fire protection and use prescribed fires carefully to avoid damaging habitat, while also controlling deer populations for oak regeneration.
Episode 40: Crown fires remove a fire-sensitive canopy dominant from oak-juniper woodlands: results from long-term monitoring of wildfires
Q: Could you give us the lowdown on what this paper is about?
The paper discusses the lasting impacts of crown fires on oak-juniper woodlands and the absence of ash juniper for decades after fires, which affects the habitat for the endangered golden cheek warbler.
Episode 39: Barriers and opportunities for implementing prescribed fire: lessons from managers in the mid-Atlantic region, United States
Q: Can you spend a minute just telling us about your methods?
This was informed by social and qualitative sciences as much as traditional fire ecology, utilizing focus groups to gather insights.
