  • No Propoganda, Please

Good content. Every time climate change is said, credibility and fact die a little. Enough with the propaganda. Where are the 'papers' on climate change? How does the incongruity of the climate change mantra and most recent So Cal fires (wettest preceding 12 months in years) rectify? Climate is guaranteed to change. Always has--always will. Models and epidemiological studies are poor science. Repeating something does not make it true. That is the definition of propaganda.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 87: Vegetation response varies by season of burning in pine woodlands across the southeastern US
Q: What is the future of this study and are there more iterations planned?
The project is in its sixth year with three more graduate students involved; they plan additional iterations to study wildlife responses and more detailed plant species effects, aiming for long-term monitoring and several iterations over a 10–12 year horizon.
Episode 87: Vegetation response varies by season of burning in pine woodlands across the southeastern US
Q: Jake, can you tell us a little about what you found?
The team documented increases in understory herbaceous and forbs with both dormant and late growing season burns, while noting that dormant season burns were less effective at controlling woody stems than late-season burns, highlighting season- dependent tradeoffs.
Episode 87: Vegetation response varies by season of burning in pine woodlands across the southeastern US
Q: Could you give us a little background of the study and tell us a little about it?
Craig Harper describes the study as a large, multi-site project with 72 prescribed burns conducted in four seasons across nine sites in four states, comparing those seasons to an unburned control, with measurements on plant communities and plans to publish wildlife results in follow-up papers.
Episode 86: Environmental health hazards and wildland firefighting: a qualitative analysis
Q: Can you give us a little sneak peek of the paper and tell us a little about the background?
The paper argues that firefighter health and safety should be prioritized in wildland fire research, highlighting a broad, under-examined set of environmental health hazards beyond smoke, identified through ethnographic work and interviews with firefighters and managers.
Episode 82: When the wilderness burns: an analysis of current fire management and the case for prescribed fire in designated wilderness in the United States
Q: Jonathan, what led you to take the approaches that you did in the paper?
The approach examines why human decisions have led to current practices, advocating for a return to better relationships with wilderness management.
