  • Not good

I was listening to the episode of is hospital birth safer where the guest is a OBGYN who became a home birth doctor. I work as an obstetrics nurse and this doctor made it seem like all the hospital wants to do is push interventions for money, when there are evidenced backed reasons for the practices that we see. Yet he doesn’t mention that. He also talked about old practices like cutting the cord right away when the new practice is delayed cord clamping. He used statistics in a weird way to make... more

  • Missing episodes!!

I just found this podcast and am super excited to have new insight for my ttc journey, but almost every time I go to the show page it shows NO EPISODES! There’s nothing at all! Even though a few times it has let me see the episode list and I know there are over 540 episodes. This app keeps removing all of the episodes every other time I open the app. I can’t listen to them or save them or anything. I tried contacting apple podcasts about this but I haven’t heard anything! Please fix your show so... more

  • What an amazing podcast.

I found this podcast when I went searching for information on menstrual cycles during the post partum period. After hitting the year mark of my daughter being born, I still didn’t have my cycle back and I couldn’t find any information on when I could expect it to return. But I certainly wanted to know some things to look out for so we didn’t get pregnant again just yet. Then I stumbled upon Fertility Friday. And man, what a mountain of amazing information. And her book! I tell all women about it... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

FFP 624 | Is Hospital Birth Really Safer? | Dr. Stuart Fischbein, MD
Q: How did your training influence your view on birth as a natural process vs. a medical condition?
His training emphasized a medical model with risk management, but his experiences with midwives and home birth led him to view birth as a natural process that often benefits from minimal intervention, with medicalized care sometimes causing more harm than good.
FFP 625 | The Case for Progesterone in Perimenopause | Dr. Jerilynn Prior
Q: What evidence exists for using progesterone to treat perimenopausal symptoms?
Dr. Prior cites a randomized controlled trial showing that progesterone can improve night sweats and sleep in symptomatic perimenopausal women, with stop-start guidelines indicating patients can discontinue and reassess without immediate symptom rebound.
FFP 625 | The Case for Progesterone in Perimenopause | Dr. Jerilynn Prior
Q: What is the main misconception about perimenopause that you want to correct?
Perimenopause is not simply a period of low estrogen; estrogen often rises and fluctuates erratically while progesterone declines, which drives many symptoms. The focus should be on balancing hormones and treating symptomatic individuals with progesterone rather than universally prescribing estrogen or calling it replacement therapy.
FFP 623 | Cycle Charting as Primary Care: A Midwife's Perspective | FAMM Practitioner Series | Harriet Thorn
Q: Do you teach postpartum charting, and how do you see charting fitting into postpartum care?
Harriet agrees postpartum charting can be possible with adaptations and emphasizes that it can be offered to women who are interested, not as a universal requirement, with careful assessment of breastfeeding status and individual circumstances.
FFP 623 | Cycle Charting as Primary Care: A Midwife's Perspective | FAMM Practitioner Series | Harriet Thorn
Q: What has changed in your practice since engaging with the FAMM program, and how have you integrated fertility awareness into client work?
She highlights the structure and intake process from FAMM, the ability to track problems over multiple sessions, and incorporating nutrition, online care, and a more flexible pricing model while maintaining patient-centered care.
