  • Feeding Matters provides HOPE!!

I have been involved with Feeding Matters since 2018, when my third child was born with feeding difficulties. This organization has practically held my hand during our journey with Pediatric Feeding Disorder by giving me emotional support, providing resources to help my child get a diagnosis and put me in contact with providers that know what PFD is-which isn’t a lot. Just within the past 5 years being able to watch them grow and advocate has been incredible let alone their growth since 2006! & ... more

  • Relatable and Captivating

Feeding differences are so unique to each child. It’s so interesting to hear about the psychosocial aspects as children mature and can better express and describe their journey. It’s a perspective that is much needed!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ICYMI: WIC & PFD
Q: But what do you think, what are the barriers to family-centered research?
A major barrier is the need to strengthen partnerships among the Consortium, the National WIC Association, state agencies, and researchers to keep families at the center, ensuring research asks reflect real-world needs and that dissemination reaches the communities involved.
ICYMI: ARFID - A Feeding and Eating Disorder
Q: What do you see as some of the more prominent barriers to family-centered research in RFID and PFD?
Barriers include low awareness of ARFID, which leads to delays in diagnosis and entry into research; the need for standardized measures that capture both caregiver and patient perspectives; and building interdisciplinary, family-inclusive methodologies that translate to real-world settings.
ICYMI: The Small Wins Are Big
Q: What advice do you have for other parents who are at the beginning of their journey?
Celebrate small victories, trust the process, seek out resources like Feeding Matters, advocate for your child, and build a support network that can grow with you through every step of care and research.
#feedingmatters20: Stories Behind the Movement | Dr. Jaime Phalen, MD
Q: Maybe share a little bit about your specialty, how you got into it, how you kind of work in partnership in pediatrics with your family physicians or your pediatricians, just to give maybe especially families a little bit more insight.
Dr. Phalen describes a career path from general pediatrics through a development-focused fellowship, highlighting interdisciplinary teams and a broad scope of patients, and explains how he works with PCPs and other specialists to address feeding disorders within the family context, including social determinants and access to care.
Empowering Communities
Q: So if I'm someone to participate in a watch party, how do I get involved if my state doesn't have a council yet?
Listeners can visit the dedicated web page to see which states are hosting watch parties, sign up for $25, and gain access to CEUs; if their state isn't listed, they can contact Jen to discuss starting a new watch party.
