In the first series, Planet Chicken, Chris digs into the story of one of the most widely eaten meats on earth - to try to get to the truth of why we eat so much of it, and what that means for the birds, for us, and for the planet.

Really well researched, written and executed. Perfect no nonsense science based approach to an issue much more complex than we (don’t) think.
A fantastic and well rounded look at an aspect of global food systems.
Chris explores poultry farming in depth and pretty much answers any question you’d imagine along the way.
The ending is a bit lacklustre... I think it doesn’t go far enough to properly summarise the topics explored as well as the meaning of Chris’ decision behind his own chickens in the context of how we consume meat and how comfortable we are with death as a byproduct.

Can’t lie, the last episode really got me questioning what I choose to eat and just how ethical I really am. Great listen all the way through. Highlighting pros & cons and letting you the consumer decide, once the facts are presented, what options are available when sourcing your Sunday roast.
Love Chris’ presenting style, always know you’re in safe hands.
I really appreciate that this is covered from so many angles and in such detail. Based on his book and other podcast series, I think Chris Van Tullekan really tried to cover every perspective, rather than just the easy ones. I’d have preferred a little more discussion and digging down with the Viva CEO - how do they target the farms they choose? Do they target some farms and find there aren’t any animal cruelty exposures to make?

I recently became vegetarian and this podcast has cemented my feelings, but even if you are a meat eater this is a really fascinating insight into the meat industry, the history of chicken farming and info on how to eat more ethically. I’d recommend to anyone interested in where their food comes from
