  • Political Opinions Abound

More than 50% of the country vehemently disagrees with the idea that MAHA and other administration policies are somehow anti-science. Generally great content, but often the conversations get political. Pushing a certain agenda. • Unnecessary turn

I find some of it interesting, though I disagree that “obesity is a symptom of an underlying metabolic disorder,” as Dr. Cooper likes to say. She ignores overeating as a cause for obesity. Her information seems anecdotal, not based on science. But the reason I will no longer listen to this podcast is that she brought politics into the discussion. Whether or not you like the current administration, it’s not to be blamed for obesity and shouldn’t have entered the conversation.

  • Recent Episode a Complete Failure

I have loved, recommended, and supported this podcast for a long time. But the recent episode with Dr. Vin Gupta should have never been released. It’s boring and uninformative. Dr. Gupta is clearly not well-versed in GLP1s and never misses an awkward opportunity to take a dig at the current administration. I think the Fat Science team was star struck with the guest and their unneeded, amateurish and smug political bias was leaking out all over the place. Do better going forward please.

  • Informative

As someone who has just recently started the zepbound journey and has struggled with their weight for years, I am enjoying Dr. Cooper's medical explanations that you won't get in your local doctor's office. I want to understand what I'm taking and how it's working in my body. The 4 star rating is because the comic relief aspect from one of the other hosts is more annoying than funny. I fast forward through those and it provides no value to me as a listener.

Why Three Major Obesity Organizations Just Changed What Success Means
Q: How do barriers to care influence the adoption of these guidelines?
Barriers like insurance hurdles, access to clinicians, and stigma hinder treatment; addressing these barriers is essential to ensure that guideline recommendations translate into real-world improvements.
Why Three Major Obesity Organizations Just Changed What Success Means
Q: What do the strongest recommendations include, and why are they significant?
Semaglutide, tirzepatide, and bupropion-naltrexone received strong recommendations because they show robust improvements across health outcomes, not just weight, underscoring a broader approach to treating obesity.
Mailbag: Mechanical Eating vs Calorie Counting on Ozempic and Wegovy
Q: What is the recommended approach when someone on GLP-1 medication considers dieting or calorie restriction, and how should they balance tracking calories with medication?
Avoid strict calorie counting; instead adopt mechanical eating with balanced meals and regular eating times, ensure adequate protein and micronutrients, and work with a dietitian to avoid destabilizing the hormones involved in GLP-1 pathways.
Mailbag: Mechanical Eating vs Calorie Counting on Ozempic and Wegovy
Q: Is there a correlation between height and calorie needs for weight loss, and do shorter women truly need to eat significantly less?
Calorie needs are highly individual; height alone isn't a reliable predictor. It's more important to focus on metabolic health, lean mass, and sustainable eating patterns rather than strict calorie targets, and avoid extreme restrictions.
Mailbag: Fasting, Food Noise & GLP-1s
Q: Could disrupted sleep patterns explain what happened to me with shift work and metabolism?
Yes, shift work and chronic sleep disruption are linked to metabolic stress, including endocrine disruption and increased cardiovascular and immune risks; sleep normalization benefits metabolic function.
